Over the last year I have gained 40 pounds. I am always cold and my skin is always itchy. I was a size 5 last November I have ballooned up to a 14. I am scared I dont know what is wrong with me. I am 38 years old I don't know if its menopause maybe hormones? I have already been tested for thyroid and all the tests were normal. I have the same diet as last year I haven't changed anything. I have also been getting Migraine headaches at least 2 or 3 a week. I need help! Any advice would be great!

Go get checked for Polycystic Ovary Syndrome by your OB/GYN which can cause weight gain and irregular periods and skin problems and have your prolactin levels checked as well. God Bless. Hope you find a diagnosis real soon.

  • Have them draw your thyroid again. I have severe thyroid problems and have had wrong readings, sounds like hypothyroid to me which can lead to some very serious health consequences if not monitered correctly.

  • sorry, didn't read original post properly and missed the reference to normal TFT's. Have you had your liver function and protein levels checked as well? Is the gain in weight all over, or concentrated on certain areas? Where is the itching? Is there any skin discolouration or discolouration of the whites of your eyes? Are your bladder and bowels normal?

  • Yes, get your thyroid re-checked. You have classic signs of hypothyroidism.I have hypothyroidism and it makes you feel like crap. My endocrinologist told me that levels need to be very tight, not the wide range that GP's use.Get a good endocrinologist.

  • Where is your weight gain? Have you noticed that your face has started to change shape? Do you have thinning of the arms and legs? Have you had your corizone levels checked? Have you heard of cushings disese? It makes you gain weight rapidly and unless you get it controlled it will continue. I have thyroid disese and I have severe fatigue and its hard for me to lose weight even though I am supposedly on the right thyroid dosage.
