Hello, im a doctor and i have been head of the diagnostic Department where i work (in a hospital)

but for about 1 year now I have been having many symptoms, what frightens me is that I can't even figure this out

I need help. So I came here and would be greatful for help.

Symptoms:

Rashes (arms, legs, chest, back) sometimes raised
Headaches, rating 7/10 on the pain scale
Numbness, roof of mouth and tongue
Stiff and painful neck
Sore throat, hoarseness
Thrush ( on the tongue)
Double and sometimes blurry vision
Diarrhea
Constipation (longest time without peeing - 2 days, longest time without pooing - nearly 5 days)
Upset stomach
Bone pain, joint pain & swelling
Stiffness of joints
Shortness of breath, can't get full/satisfying breath
Chest pain
Heart palpitations (recently found arrhythmia)
Burning or stabbing sensations in the body
EXTREME Fatigue, Weakness
Numbness in body, tingling, pinpricks
dizziness, difficulty walking
Lightheadedness
Difficulty falling or staying asleep
extremely bad pain in both legs, hands and arms

one of the more recent symptoms, four of my toes went numb. cant feel them at all. but when i stuck a pin into my toes i could feel the pain, but ONLY when pain should have occured.

it has slowly creeped a little bit up my foot. (this is all in the right foot)
also, the right foot is very swollen and bigger than the left which a lot of people notice if they drop in and i have forgotten to put socks on or something

testing:
all blood tests negative for everything, lyme disease, RA... lupus panal clear, MRI clear no nerve testing done yet.
RBC count fine... everything is clear.

i decided to write all my symptoms down and think of what it could be, i have ruled out Guillain-Barré syndrome but one of my most recent thoughts has had me thinking that i might have Brucellosis, but im not sure about it.

i live in canada so tropical diseases are out of the way unless i have been in contact with somebody.. which is very unlikely. and i dont travel

if anybody could please offer any input i would be greatful

thank you all in advance

  • Hi! Another DR here....see my post on the "it's been a year.." thread - Celiac disease is the "great masquerader" Also Vit 12 deficiency - but this can go along with CD.My main point is for people with multiple strange symptoms to go ahead and try a gluten-free diet despite "tests" or "boipsies"...and get their B12 level checked!!!I have much (maybe too much) more info on the other thread. Hope this helps!

  • Have you positively rulled out thryoid conditions? Have you tested for the antibodies of Hashimotos or Graves? Is your TSH between 0.3 and 2.5 with FT3 and FT4 in mid ranges? For some folks (you doctors have a hard time believeing this) even a bit outside the range can really effect them..... Have you positively rulled out other autoimmune diseases? You could have more than one such as Hashimotos and Fibromyalgia How about candida: thrush on tongue and digestive issues and many symptoms you mentioned. Chronic fatigue? Celiac disease? Are you man or woman? How old are you? Joan

Joan im the kind of doctor who thinks outside of the box. not your typical doc :D but anyway no tyroid tests yet, chronic fatigue is in the list of things i might have. celiac disease tested negative. endoscopy biopsy of the duodenum visually there werent the signs of celiac and lab tests support that. Fybro is also on my list of illnesses that i might have candida, makes sense to me that it would cause the stomach problems. will order untifungal tomorrow, though past efforts to clear the thrush have failed (oral antibiotics, antibiotic mouthwash ect, but havent tried antifungal yet) wooh. thank god i have a team also, i am male, age 45. im worried that after my years of medical work that i could have gotten a needle stick or something. like just a tiny ****k, wouldnt even feel it. and thats all it takes to get infected with something anyway im going to bed, kinda freaking myself out now :(

  • What were your B12 levels when you had them tested? Can you check and post here? You show a lot of symptoms of B12 def. Also, have you had a full stool exam done to check for range of candida, clostridium difficile infection, parasites, giardiia, and other pathogens? I don't think there is one thing causing this, but could be several things. I agree to check thyroid more thoroughly. Best wishesDOM

  • im guessing at probabilities here as i dont know much about some of these things but know they can cause all kinds of issues in various body areas and doctors may miss these as they dont seem to be all that up with the following.. chronic or systemic Candidiasis (possibility maybe as you do have the thrush on your tongue.. maybe it has invaded your whole body). lyme or one of the co diseases which often happen with it. Lyme tests are very inaccurate and lyme and co diseases can cause MANY different and strange issues. Chronic fatigue immunity dysfunction syndrome (chronic fatigue syndrome). You may be unaware that this illness often causes problems all over the body. i suggest to check the following symptoms out based on actual studies http://wwcoco.com/cfids/bernesx.html . (i myself have CFIDS.. your case thou.. i arent sure if it could be that.. i havent heard of a CFIDS person say about non peeing issues.. unless you have a couple of different issues going on together!).

  • Are you under a huge pressure before this 1 year? Stress and pressure can cause quite a huge number of unknown symptoms. How long did you work everyday? Did you pay attention to what you have eaten all this year? Did you exercises?

You could have more than one such as Hashimotos and Fibromyalgia" yes, lupus and MS have been ruled out. im sure more have been tested for but i cant recall at this time "How about candida: thrush on tongue and digestive issues and many symptoms you mentioned" makes sense to me that it would cause many symptoms and stomach problems. ill have a stool sample done to test and start antifungal treatment asap "Chronic fatigue?"thats on my list of possible causes "Celiac disease?" endoscopy showed no visable "markers", biopsy of the duodenum was also negative "Are you man or woman? How old are you? Joan" im male, 46 thank you again responding to Monsterlove's post"Have you been checked for syphilis?" yes, it was negative. responding to Acuann"What were your B12 levels when you had them tested? Can you check and post here? You show a lot of symptoms of B12 def. i dont even remember if i had them checked. but i can find out. ill post back with the results (if any) when i find out Also, have you had a full stool exam done to check for range of candida, clostridium difficile infection, parasites, giardiia, and other pathogens? soon im doing a full stool exam, these things and more will be tested for. "I don't think there is one thing causing this, but could be several things. Stress and pressure can cause quite a huge number of unknown symptoms." no my stress wasnt a problem. i dotn think stress affects me, im the type of person who can just let a lot of things slide so not to much gets to me. "How long did you work everyday?" the longest was 14 hours in the ER, but on normal days 8 - 10 hours (being on call, its not fun) "Did you pay attention to what you have eaten all this year?" Yep, im a healthy eater. i have had fast food maybe twice in two years now. no pop and i only have a sweet candy or chocolate bar once in a few months. so id consider myself really healthy :D "Did you exercises?" whenever i had the chance i would run for 20 mins on the treadmill, stationary bike for 10 mins. thank you to all who posted and thank you for any further posts, im sorry that i couldn't post awhile ago

About your right leg, have you checked the possibility of DVT, all the way up to your right common iliac vein? I wish you soon find out what’s wrong. Good luck!
