I am getting very frustrated. I can not seem to get a diagnosis on my 22 month old baby boy. On Friday we took him in for what we thought was an ear infection, but turned out to be a sore throat and upper respitory infection. So he was put on Omnicef. Then on Sunday woke with a fever. He ran the fever all week still is running it today day 6. It is not real high, it ranges 101.3-103.6, it only hit 103.6 one day witch was on wednesday. Well on Wednesday he broke out in a rash all over his back chest and neck. It is flush to the skin, you can not feel it at all. It is white in the middle with a halo around the out side of it. I don't know what to do. He woke up this morning day 3of the rash and day 6 of the fever, looking worse. it is on his head and yes. He don't seem to be getting better. the dr can't seem to tell us what is wrong other than the normal it's just a virus. I am getting so sick of hearing this!!!! Any opinions of what this could be?? Please write me on my home e-mail. rae91382@yahoo.com
thanks,
mom in distress!!!

  • Here are side effects of omnicef: an allergic reaction (difficulty breathing; closing of the throat; swelling of the lips, face, or tongue; hives; or a rash); ·rash, redness, or itching; ·seizures; ·severe nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea; ·mucous or blood in the stool; or ·unusual bleeding or bruising. Please tell your doctor that he is having an allergic reaction to this drug, and stop giving this to him...he isn't showing improvement and is actually worse - this means it is the wrong antibiotic. Also, if your doctor actually said it was normal and "just a virus" then get another doctor...Antibiotics do NOTHING for viruses! It is very likely that your boy had a viral upper respiratory infection...did they do a throat culture for strep? If they didn't culture it then how could they know it was bacterial? It is just too easy for docs to throw antibiotics at illnesses. Often causing more harm than good... In the meantime, try to give him an oatmeal bath - this is very soothing for rashes and calming for the skin. Give him lots of fluids, water is best. Don't give him any dairy until things clear up. Get him a children's chewable acidopholus/probiotic supplement - this is very important to help counteract the antibiotic and rebuild his intestinal flora. Can you find another doctor? This one doesn't seem to be helping. Best wishes.DOM

  • Hi...I am not a doctor, however the unusual rash sounds like an allergic reaction to antibiotic.Your initial problem however, the high fever etc. Has your son been checked for a kidney infection ?My son had similar symptoms and was EVENTUALLY diagnosed with kidney reflux.Good luck.

  • Hi, I have a 10 month old so I know how frustrated you may be. I don't even want to say this, but....have you asked your doctor about possible menengitis, (if i spelled it right) it could be dangerous, and a lot of times people mistake it for viral infections. My cousin had it when he was little and experienced a lot of the symptoms that you were describing. I would go to the doctor and make them test him for that just to rule it out because it is such a serious problem especially in little ones.

I can not believe that person told you not to worry. Go to a doctor right away.

  • Please do not listen to anything Shula or Acuann tell you. My sister just passed away because Shula and Acuann told her that her doctor was wrong and she did not have a serious condition. Acuann even told her to get acupuncture to get healed. These people are going to be investigated for practicing medicine without a license. Shula and Acuann are specifically wanted in connection with my sisters homocide. Thats right homocide. If she would have listened to her doctor instead of these internet quacks she would still be here today. Rest assured I will do everything in my power to put these two behind bars and shut this website down for good.

Hi, I am no doctor but I was wondering if he was tested for infectious mononucleosis (glandular fever, not sure what you call it in america?) as he was diagnosed with throat and respitory infection, and has a fever (similar symptoms to mono) it occured to me if has mononucleosis and was on antibiotics it can cause a rash, this happened to my sister, the doctors thought she had laryngitis, put her in antibiotics which caused a rash and then did a blood test for mono and it was positive. I would suggest to keep taking him back to the doctors until you get an answer, fevers in children that go on for too long are not good. good luck and keep us posted on how he is doing. And I know it is hard when your child is sick , but please make sure you get enough rest too, you wont be any good to him if you are run down.
