Over 2 months ago, I had discharge and itching and discomfort. I went to see an ob/gyn NP. She did a full exam, all STD testing. She diagnosed me with a yeast infection and prescribed one dose diflucan. The symptoms continued and i went back. She said all tests were negative. She then looked at the culture and said it was bacterial vaginosis and prescribed Clindesse. That still didn't work. On a return visit, she concluded that it must be something I was using (soap, detergent, etc) I changed everything. I visited another doctor when the symptoms continued. She had no answer and prescribed more medicine for a yeast infection and bacterial vaginosis. At this point, it I was having severe discomfort (both physical and mental) After following her treatment, I called for test results and told her my symptoms were still there, she then tried to treat me for a UTI. I just went to ANOTHER doctor. He ran a culture and said it was ANOTHER yeast infection. He prescribed boric acid twice a day for 2 weeks. I did 12 days of the treatment and was still severely uncomfortable. The itching on the groin and back of my legs and pressure in the vagina. I went back to the doctor and he said the yeast was gone. He now wants to run more tests (he did mention herpes which freaked me out since I had already had all my STD tests done when the problem began.) it concerns me because the itching is not only in the vaginal area but on the backs on my legs and sometimes on the front. This is really affeting my state of mind...

  • Is there a rash with the itching? If you exposed your thighs to water too much you could have a dermatitis from that.

  • Try taking probiotics, eating lots of yogurt and a vinegar water douche. The itching / rash could be a side effect from the meds..tea tree oil may help that.

  • Is there a rash with the itching? If you exposed your thighs to water too much you could have a dermatitis from that. There is no rash or bumps or anything. The itching is transient as well which is a problem. There is no external sign of any problem. Could the dermatitis be there with no rash or signs? What could I use to treat it? My doctor gave me a steroid cream but that didn't help. He wants to do a skin biopsy next week. I bought Gold bond cream to help alleviate the discomfort. Will that affect a biopsy?

It only alleviates the problem temporarily. I don't have any sort of rash or marks that would indicate somethign is wrong. The last doctor I went to said everything looked fine but I am so uncomfortable.

  • A skin biopsy is a good idea, and,no,the Gold Bond cream won't affect it. He also gave me a estrogen cream to apply. Does this seem like a good idea? Are vinegar baths ok?

  • I would ask for a blood test for herpes 2, specific, IgM and IgG...they usually never check for that unless there is an obvious blister and herpes takes many forms, at times, invisible.

  • A skin biopsy is a good idea, and,no,the Gold Bond cream won't affect it. I had a skin biopsy done and he said it will take a week for the results to come back. He also ran another culture and said the yeast was back (the last time it was completely gone) The pain is more constant in the vulva area. He told me to use the estrogen cream liberally and gave me more boric acid suppositories. He also had me tested for Herpes type 1 and the others were all negative. i am wondering how much stress could be exacerbating this. I don't know what to tell my boyfriend either. He has been really understanding but I just have no answers.

  • You could tell your boyfriend that you're as eager as he is for you to be successfully treated and how much you appreciate his support and understanding at this time.

He did a blood test and it came back postive for HSV 1. He presribed oral medication though he is still not sure that's what it is since there are no bumps or sores. I am upset but hoping this takes care of my problems.
