Over the last 6 months, I have had increasing pain and immobility in my knees, I can't sleep, and my hands, fingers and legs are all swollen when I wake up. I don't really want to be run through a bunch of tests, but feel like it's going to take that to see what is wrong with me. At 29 I am having symptoms my grandmother does with arthritis and my Aunt has Schleroderma, which most of my symptoms are what she started out with when she was my age....I have migraines daily anymore and just feel completely exhausted. I exercise regularly teaching Zumba classes, and I don't feel the pain during class, but after, I just want to take something to put me under. It's a 15 minute drive home, and by the time I get home, it's hard to get out of my car because my knees are swollen and my joints are stiff. I have been taking Aleve during the day, and Tylenol PM every night for quite some time just to keep me functional...If anyone has any ideas on what all of these symptoms together is...please let me know...I'd like to have some sort of idea of what I'm looking at before I get bombarded at the Dr. I am thinking about being tested for Schleroderma, but a lot of what I've read...I'm not sure I wanna know...but need to so it gets under control now than later...thanks...

  • Hi roody19,Firstly a disclaimer: I am not a qualified doctor (yet) and so would advise you to seek the advice of your local doctor rather than listen to me.From what you are describing it sounds very much like an inflammatory arthritis (I would say rheumatoid, except that the knees aren't commonly involved) - particuarly if your pain is worse after periods of inactivity and associated with swelling and stiffness, and on a family history of immune-mediated arthritides (ask your grandmother what type of arthritis she has).In any case I would advise you to GO SEE A DOCTOR. If it is an immune-mediated arthritis then you gain nothing by waiting - it only allows for the progression of the condition. Early treatment is an imperative to halt the progression and allow for you to continue doing your activities. If it is not, you lose nothing by getting a professional opinion and at least, some effective treatment for your pain. In any case, the diagnosis can usually be made by a clinical assessment and some blood tests. It shouldn't be too harrying.Good luck :)

If you have a family history of arthritis and scleroderma, you're probably developing one of these conditions or some other related condition. You don't want to let this go on much longer without some sort of diagnosis and treatment.
