Hello, I am suffering from frequent and urgency to urinate. Shooting pains In my vagina and urethra. I feel pressure in my vagina when sitting or lying down. Some days are more painful than others. I havd been to 6 ob/gyn and a urologist. I have had CAT scans and ultrasounds of the area and have taken many atnibiotics with no diagnosis. I am STD free. I need help, I am scared, and all of the doctors have told me that there is nothing wrong. Please, anyone have any suggest?

My mom had these symptoms and that was her diagnosis. She was treated with meds and is fine now.She went to many urologists, gynos, and even Mayo clinic with no help. Finally a urogynocologist Dr. Edward Stanford, Centralia, IL solved her pain with the drugs Elmiron and Vistiral, he used a test that involved inserting a catheter and injecting potassium into bladder which created the same pain mother was having. With that info he treated her with the drugs I mentioned and told her to avoid acidic foods in her diet. Hope this might help you some.Good Luck.

  • Steffi, as medhugger says interstitial cystitis sounds quite possible. An alternative might be that you have a fungal infection.

  • Steffi, Candida (thrush) is the most common fungus that is quoted for vaginal infections. There are a range of others that can 'take root' down there also. Your doctor might have ruled out a fungal infection if there is no apparent discharge. That doesn't mean to say that is the case though. Taking antibiotics can make a fungal infection even worse. Treatment usually involves creams or suppositories (similar to those used for athletes foot). You can buy these over the counter, although it is something you ought to pursue with your doctor first. It might well not be a fungal infection and/ or the discomfort might be originating from further up. Although of the opposite gender, I suffered the male equivalent to your symptoms for several years. This was cured very effectively by adding a few drops (about 15) of 'Tea Tree Oil' to the bath water before I had a bath. This is a natural remedy that has various antisceptic and antifungal properties (there is actually a resarch unit at a university in Australia dedicated to its effects). If you did try this though, be prepared to stop if it causes irritation. Incidentally, the Tea Tree Oil got rid of my athlete's Foot at the same time. Once again, it is worth checking out your doctor's views on the possibility a fungal infection before anything else.

I have this and these symptoms are alot like mine. It hurts alot at times, my vagina has pains shooting through it, I go to the bathroom alot, tons at night. My back hurts. They can check this out by doing a simple test, you will have to be asleep for it, but if it checks out then you will take a medication called emuron three times a day. This helps coat the lining of the bladder so that the urine doesn't irritate it and cause pain. To read more just go to medicinenet.com I have learned to just keep trying. It has been over 7 years for me of being sick and I'm still searching for answers, but right now I'm just treating the symptoms. Good luck!
