  • I have also been diagnosed with HTLV-I & II. My symptoms as of late have been headaches, spasms in my arms and legs, and overall weakness. Even most specialists in this field dont much much about this disease.. there is no cure. And HOPE and pray you dont get the T-Cell Leukemia associated with it (which is even more rare than the Tropical Paraparesis). There is one herbal alternative that has helped me with this disease. It is called Shiitake Mushrooms. Eat about 3-4 average sized ones per day, (the supplements or capsules dont work as well). If you google this mushroom and also type in HTLV, you will find that in Japan where this diease is prevalent, they use these mushrooms in liquified form and inject into people. This therapy has taken away 99% of my symptoms.. I just eat them everyday.. dont eat alot of them, only about 3-4 per day is the right dosage for a person under 180 lbs. When I stop the shiitake mushrooms for a few days, the symptoms come back... so I keep up with eating them since they are helping me. Try it and I am sure you will feel results after at least a week. Let me know.. and anyone else with HTLV-I & II please write me.

  • Regarding treatment, recently a patient in Greece was treated with 8 months of azacytidine, which apparently cleared the virus.

  • The Shittake mushrooms that you mentioned perhaps have a demethylating effect, as is the case with green tea. Demethylation hinders the virus - recently a patient in Greece was treated with 8 months of azacytidine, a demethylating agent, which apparently cleared the virus.

  • Also, Fucoidan has been found to be very effective against HTLV - researchers have proven this, so try taking that.

I have spoken with my physician and of course there is nothing that they can do. I am glad I read about using Shiitake Mushrooms. I hope that they will give me some relief.

Recently I started having some problems with my balance. I have fallen once or twice in the last year. I did not think it was from the condition but from me not watching where I was going...Duh...Anyway when I read your post regarding Shiitake Mushrooms I felt a glimmer of hope. I am going to investigate them. I am taking Baclophen at present, but I don't think its doing much.

Also try Fucoidan, which has been medically proven to help. You certainly don't want to fall down anymore.

I am going to mention azacytidine to my doctor. I am hopeful. I have started on the mushrooms. I know that it takes time for any treatment to work. Lord have mercy.
