Hot, swollen, red ankles and feet...

I have a really ugly case of pitting edema... very swollen ankles and feet, and the edema has spread (although not so much visibly) up my right calf. My ankles are very red, very hot, and before I got a perscription for an anti-inflamitory pain-killer, I could barely walk they were so sore.

My blood pressure is fine, my heart, liver, kidneys and diabetes tests came back okay, so it's none of those, gout was ruled out by my doctor - but they're baffled and a doctor said last night in her 20 years of practice, she has never seen anything like it.

I'm 31 and usually pretty active. Has anyone else ever experienced anything like this and gotten an answer as to what caused it?

  • I experienced something very similar to this and I was diagnosed with Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy (RSD)

  • I am going to mention the same RSD, Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy. I too had the same symtoms like you that started in my foot and eventually went full body so if it could possibly be RSD you need to get it diagnosed and start treating so it not to get worse. Niki
