I am 19 years old, 160 lbs, healthy and clean. I grew up swimming in high school and have never had this problem. my senior year, i moved schools and joined their swim team/new pool. half way through the season, i noticed whenever i got into the pool, i start itching underneath the skin in my palms and bottoms of my feet. as time progressed, it started to itch all over my body! one day, i grab a soda out of the fridge, and as the cold came in contact with my hand, it started to itch underneath the skin.
this is no ordinary itch. this is the itch from ***l. it doesnt go away until i heat up the itching area.
now just in cold weather (i ride a motorcycle, so i deal with wind chill and cold all the time) if my skin comes in contact with the cold, it itches like crazy and scratching it doesnt make it go away, just restarts the itch cycle. sometimes in areas like my theighs, stomach, and the top of my feet, i get bumps and redness, as if my skins alergic to the cold!
in situations where i cannot find heat, i am absolutely miserable!! if its on my hands (which is where it happens most) my fingers sometimes swell if i dont apply heat myself, and they get really hot internally, and stop itching.
it has been 2 years since i have been in a swimming pool, and the itch was worse yesterday than it ever has been in my life. what could possibly be wrong?
the itch is activated by:
touching something cold from the fridge or cooler
getting wet from cold water
touching cold metal
sitting in an air condition room colder than liked.
really, touching anything cold!
i HAVE noticed that if i go to the bathroom and wash my hands with soap and hot water, the itch will not come when i come in contact with any cold...for a couple hours. hours later, if i come in contact with something cold, the itch comes back.
MY theory is the oils my skin secretes throughout the day is what causes the itch when it comes in contact with cold. please someone help...
please help me fight...the ITCH!
