I have had the following symptoms -

malaise - 4 weeks, culminating in hot flashes on week 4. was on and off.
some lower back pain.
some weord sensations in my legs, burning, tingling - not too bad.

and now, a somewhat classic looking herpes rash on my ankle..... red sores that itch, dont pain but the itch was on and off. About 6 on one ankle (front above foot) and about 1 or 2 on the other.......

could I possibly have genital herpes?

I have had excellent advice elsewhere on line that points to "no" but I am just so concerned at this point - I need to hear of anyones experience or opinion - what else could it be?

very upset.

  • Fortunately, due to the location and itching sensation (rather than pain) it is very unlikely that you have herpes. Also, herpes infections that don't appear in the genitals or mouth tend to be extremely serious. You most likely have a more common skin irritation such as an allergy, eczema, or bug bites (mosquito, spider, fleas, or mites: such as scabies or "bed bugs"). Best of luck!

  • some lower back pain.some weord sensations in my legs, burning, tingling - not too bad. There are many faces of herpes and the burning and tingling in the back and down legs can be due to the virus. Those are some symptoms, but the fact that it is on top of your foot/ankle would indicate probably not...have you asked your partner if they have herpes? If they indicate that they do (most people lie about it, but some are honest), then I would get a blood test for herpes 2, otherwise, I'd be looking for bugs. If you are concerned about having a STD, you can always get blood work for herpes2 and syphilis.
