  • I'm male, but I've had a lot of women in my life who've had this kind of infection (which is almost surely what it is). Women's vaginas and urinary tracts are very susceptible to infection by bacteria and yeasts, which are everywhere in the environment. If your boyfriend's hands weren't clean -- or even if they were -- you could have gotten all kinds of little bugs from him. But don't panic. Most likely your infection is minor, and is treatable with an antibiotic or an over-the-counter medication for yeast infections like Monistat. The burning and the frequent need to urinate sound like a bacterial urinary infection. It might clear on its own, but you'll probably need antibiotics. Cranberry juice does help with the pain, but it doesn't cure infections. So drink cranberry juice to relieve the symptoms and wait a few days. If your symptoms are unchanged in 3-4 days, or if they get worse, get to a doctor.
