I'm 23 years old and last summer I went to the ER with a similar pain and was treated for epididymitis. It went away, and three weeks later had a UTI. They were since resolved and have been fine for several months. just three weeks ago, my left testicle started with a dull pain for a day or two then caused additional symptoms I didn't have the last time I had epididymitis such as sharp bilateral pain of the testes, back pain, obdominal pain, pelvic pain, some nausea, burning urination, hesitance etc. I went to the free clinic because I am uninsured and I pretty much told them that I thought it was epididymo-orchitis with possible prostatis. They really weren't too familiar with epididymitis (as most physicians seem not to be and even a urologist I spoke to last year). They told me I had ghonnorhea or chlamydia even though they DID NOT test me for STDs and there is no way that I could have an std since the only girl I've slept with since my last STD tests was my girlfriend, who was a virgin before I met her, and with a condom. In addition, there only reason for suspecting an std is because guys under 35 with epididymitis usually have one of the afformentioned STDs. Also, odly enough, I tested negative for a UTI. I took 10 days of Doxycyclene with a one time injection and with Ibuprofen and as expected . . . it didn't go away. I went back to the clinic, they examined my prostate and found nothing wrong. They gave me a pass to get a testicle ultrasound at a nearby hospital two weeks from now. My testicles aren't really in significant pain much anymore and the swelling has seemed to have subsided so maybe whatever it is it's just healing very slowly. However, my testicles seem to be about half the size they were before this all happened. Also, I now feel like I have a fever but without a temperature. I doubt it's cancer, because there was no appearant painless lump but I'm moreso concerned that it was torsion because I read somewhere that swelling and pain from torsion goes away after a few weeks and that they shrink. Is this possibly it, or would I just know by now if they were strangulated? Also, can I ejaculate yet or would that reinfect/cause swelling again?
Anyone with similar experience or knowledge on this topic would be GREATLY appreciated! Thanks!

  • hey, I just turned 24 and have a similar story to yours. I just started doing push ups when about 4 pushups in I felt a strain in my left side, it was an odd feeling and had a little pain in my side but didn't think to much of it. The next day I woke up and my left testicle hurt. I''ve never felt anything like it before so I iced it and it gradually went away after a few days. Then a couple weeks later here I am with the same situation, pain in the left testicle. Its a little scary but I don't really know what to think.

  • Usually when you go to a free clinic, they run the tests before telling you that you have an STD. You may have to pay for a herpes 2 specific blood test. That's one they don't check for. As long as you are having sex, you are at risk for STDs, no matter what the person says. You could also have had the disease before this relationship, with no external symptoms, no rash, but now the pain. Try that blood test and then if it's negative, move on to something else.
