My husband has been sick and getting sicker for about 4 years now. I should preface this by saying he has had migraines since the age of 7. but 4 years ago he started having weakness in his legs, this progressed to weakness in his arms and extremities. He has also had fatigue, occasional incontinence, slurring of speach, night tremors, muscle spasms, and lately we have added violent shivering attacks. He says its like he is cold from the inside out. Funny thing is his body is very hot during these attacks, and the room temperature is comfortable. His respiration increases into the 30s and his pulse is rapid. then he falls into a deep sleep.

The symptoms used to come and go with weeks of normalcy. Now we are luck to get a day without symptoms.

He has had an MRI which show lesions, however the doctors say they are not MS lesions. So for now MS has been ruled out.

Our problem is everytime we almost get to an answer we lose our health coverage and then have to start all over again when we get new coverage. I am terrified we are running out of time. His family and a lot of the medical personell think I may exaggerate. but they dont sit with him, they don't see what I see day in and day out. I am at my wits end, please somebody, help.

  • FIND ANOTHER DOCTOR!This sounds like MS, and it is very difficult to diagnose...please find a doctor who will explain what the lesions are, if they aren't MS. Please visit www.nationalmssociety.org for more info on MS...I really think this could be what is troubling him. When I was in graduate school studying acupuncture, we had a case history of a man who was very debilitated by MS...after several months of acupuncture treatment and a radical diet/supplement regime (he did a lot of raw juice fasts and ate NO animal products at all) his turnaround was extraordinary! He had gained muscle mass and didn't need a walker to help him walk anymore. Acupuncture can really help - do you live near a big city? Please visit www.acufinder.com and type in your zip code to find an acupuncturist near you. Also, please explore alternative ways to help your husband with his symptoms of MS. Even if he is not "diagnosed" as having this disease, he may benefit from some of the alternative treatments for it out there. How is his diet? Does he take any meds currently? I am sorry for all that you must be going through. Sometimes when western medical treatment fails to help us, we as consumers must take things into our own hands and see what works for us. I hope this helps.Doctor of Oriental Medicine
