My friend's 8-month old (male) infant was just recovering from a bout of Chicken Pox, when he had internal bleeding visible as blue bruises all over his body. He was hospitalised and had to have a blood transfusion but the doctor has been unable to form a diagnosis to the cause. His symptoms are: An enlarged liver, High fever ranging from 102 to 104 degrees, Internal bleeding, Loss of appetite, his Haemoglobin count was halved (5.3) and his platelet count was found to be nearly double of what is considered the normal upper limit. The baby stabilized to some extent post the transfusion and is out of danger, but was in danger of imminent cardiac arrest. He got antibiotic shots too. Viral Infection was found but the cause is still not found. If anyone knows what's wrong with him, do tell me what could be the matter! Thanks a ton, Aquariusgal.

This sounds like it could be Henoch-Schonlein Purpura, a rare viral infection that can be quite severe. Docs need to know how to look for this... Did they actually test him for chicken pox or just go by symptoms? Ask to test for HSP. My friend just had this happen to her son, and she was lucky that the ER doc had familiarity with this. This is just an idea. Could be some other viral. Did he take any medication for the chicken pox initially? How is he doing now? DOM
