Hi, i hope somebody can help mi mother! She is at the hospital since 2 weeks without a diagnosis. It started like a flu and one day suddenly she wasnt able to eat or drink anymore, she felt like the food (and liquids) where coming up instead of down so she choked each time she tried to eat or drink and next day one side of her face was paralized. We went to the hospital did x rays, MRI, catscan, and nothing came, so they told her it was bells palsy. This is 2 weeks ago and she is now at the hospital without beeing able to eat or drink, coughing, and now she has both sides of the face paralysed, it seems it is just getting worse! Please help
Thank you

  • I am so sorry they cannot diagnose her and get her some help. I don't know much about bells palsy but my uncle had it when he was younger and just one side of his face was slightly paralzed but hen went away. Did they have a neuroligist see her? Probably they did. I'm not a doctor so I dare not guess but keep posting here the right person will see it and have a clue. pop on the web and look at bells palsy see what it says. Are you going through this alone or do you have family to help too? i am so sorry for you and your mom keep searching and we are here for you even if we don't know what it is yet.

  • Okay I looked up bells palsy and this is a website http://www.bellspalsy.ws/now it says this CAN BELL'S PALSY AFFECT OTHER PARTS OF THE BODY?Bells palsy should not cause any other part of the body to become paralyzed, weak or numb. If any other areas are affected Bell's palsy is not the cause of the symptoms, and further testing must be done. So that might not be it maybe mention that to them research and question is the only way to get some answers. Sorry but i have been a patient and been with others at the hospital and I can be pretty assertive because I research and don't take what they say as gospil. I have seen too many wrong diagnosis. Let me know It seems like a form of paralysis from somethng they are not finding. Lymes disease is hard to diagnose so I'll look that up too.

  • sorry to keep posting trying to reasearch some things for you. My friend was medic in the navy and no bells palsy would not be Doing that. ask them about lymes disease. There is gilliane-barre syndrome that can cause paralysis with the face and neck. keep looking. Ask them about any possible food posining botulism anything to cause this.

I know the doctors did the blood test for Lyme disease and it came out negative, but they are still treating her like it would be Lyme disease till they know exactly what it is. I know they are running a lot of different test, so i hope they will know soon what it is so they can help her. She is not in the same country as i am, so she is sitting alone at the hospital unable to eat, drink, see and hardy speek, she 64 but is a very active person and full of life, it breaks my heart not beeing able to be with her. :-(I really appreciate every little information i could get and it helps to know there are people who care! thank you

  • What test are they giving her for the Lyme's Disease, Do you know??? Many of them give false negatives!! The western blot is abt the best. Lyme is also to be dx'd by the symptoms, not just the test. There are bacterial co- infections too, like babs, bartonella, some 300 strains. Have they checked the adrenals and thyroid?? Sometimes minerals being low or depleated has an affect on all the muscles.....Just a few more thoughts on the matter. I hope they find out soon.

  • Thank you so much for your suggestions, i am going to tell my mother to speak to the doctor about it. She is still the same, already 3 weeks without beeing able to eat or drink and both sides of her face paralized. They put her a (dont know the name) tube thru her nose to the stomach to give her baby food, but it makes her vomit, so tomorrow they will put a tube directly on her stomach. She has already lost 8 pounds, and she feels very weak. I know they are doing all kind of tests. I really hope they will find out soon what it is! I feel very sorry not beeing able to be with her :(Thanks again
