My Son is 11 years old and is suffering with pain in his right knee after being slide tackled in football. There is no obvious swelling or bruise. The knee is also very sore even if you only just touch it softly. The hospital have done an x-ray which is clear but he is currently awaiting an MRI Scan. It has now been about a month since he injured his knee and is currently in a splint & on crutches but finds it too painful to walk on it. This has happened on a few other occassions and the doctors have never come up with a reason why. He has been tested for Rheumatoid Arthritis and Stills Disease but they both came back negative. The only thing the doctors have come up with is that he has a problem with pain (intollerant or psychosymatic) I feel that there is something not right with his knee.

He has also suffered from ?IBS? since he was little, and then started getting pains in his back and various limbs. All tests done so far have come back negative.

Any ideas as I feel like I'm fighting a loosing battle.

There are things that they can use to treat things like this. This is not psychosematic, it is a neurological disorder. Since this came on after an injury, this is very possible. It isn't really good news, because it is difficult to treat, you kind of have to see what works for him, but at least you know where to start. Good luck.

  • Just a quick update. My son has been for his MRI scan but is still awaiting his results as the hospital have rearranged his appointment so now has to wait until 22nd June. He still continues to have severe pain when trying to weight bear and still requires his crutches, he can only walk with his crutches for a short period as becomes too painful. The pain takes some time too settle back down to what it was before he walked on it. He still cannot bear to have anything touch his knee and moans constantly whilst in bed trying to get to sleep because of the duvet on his knee. He has been away on holiday and the symptoms are no better, he is missing Scout camps because he is unable to take part and its starting to really wear him down. :( I have looked up CRPS and this does seem a possibility so if scan results come back clear I will mention this.
