After My Heart Surgery In January I Was Put On Coumadin Because Of The Valve Replacement. All Was Fine Untill March When The Put Me On Toprol Which Is A Blood Thinner About A Week Into It Me Urine Started Turning Red Which Looked Just Like Blood. Of Course I Was Scared Because Of The Coumadin The Doctors Have No Idea Why The Blood. I Feel Like It Is The Toprol But The Doctors Want To Do All These Procedures Like Stick Tubes Up Me To Check My Bladder Now They Want To Put Me Thru More Pain To Do Something Else. Help Me Figure Out What It Is I Do Not Hurt Nor Do I Feel It Is Anything But The Meds But I Cant Get The Doctors To Listen To Me .

  • It's better that the doctors perform all the tests rather than not. It might be the Toprol, but it might be something else, and that something else might be a serious issue. Just because you don't feel any pain doesn't mean there isn't a problem. You could push the Toprol issue on the doctor and ask if it would be OK to change to a different beta blocker (Indarol?).

  • The coumadin is your blood thinner .....not the toporal, that is a long acting heart medicine. As for the coumadin you need to keep your "protime" checked to be sure your blood is not too thin or too thick. We at our doctors office check our patients on that once a month...if it is out of control the level then the doctor will see them to make adjustment on the medicine. As for the blood showing, yes, they would want to check the bladder just to be sure there is not some process going on in there. Has nothing to do with your heart. If your blood gets too thin you can have bruising, bleeding, etc that is why it has to be checked regularly. They probably checked your protime and it was ok and thats why then they want to do the test on the bladder....to check that now.Just be glad they aren't taking any chances with your health.
