Hello everyone.

About 2 weeks ago I had the flu with a sore throat. Not mono because I had that before.

Now, I have a horrible sore throat, but no patches on my tonsils, they're clean craters with thick red veins (I don't know if that's normal?).
When I swallow, it hurts, but not like any other sore throat, it hurts.. a lot.
Also, when I press just under the adam's apple it hurts.
Swallowing also is difficult. When I swallow my throat doesn't seem to want to swallow because it hurts. In the mind I think?

If these help:
I smoke. Marlboro smooths (heard these give throat ulcers)
I have a hoarse cough.
Stuffy nose (but could just be from the cold weather, not used to it) with occasional sneezes.
No fever.
Not feeling tired, down, etc.
Can't really feel out a bump in the throat either.
Voice has seemed to be getting deeper too.
And, I have a lot of mucus build up in the nose and the throat.

Thanks a lot in advance!!!

  • If your breath out and you hear any whistling, its probably a Hemophilus infection called Epiglotitis. This can be fairly serious, because it can lead to throat closure. Also, it can be treated with AntibioticsIf its mostly when you swallow it's esophagitis, and is probably viral. (Herpetic or Cytomegalovirus) Fungal is also possible with Candida.

  • Ive read that cytomegalovirus (CMV) has a similar presentation as mono and can be sometimes confused with it. Maybe get checked to see if you have CMV. If you have someone wrong with your immune system.. one can also get reactivating EBV (mono). EBV being a herpes virus stays in ones system for life, hence is capable of reactivating.

  • Two years ago, I used to only smoke marlboro smooths. I think I smoked them soo much that it lead to me having tonsillitis. Just this month, I started smoking them again, not as much, but quite often now..And just today, my throat has started hurting, AGAIN! I'm not 100% positive that the cigarettes are to blame, but let me put it this way, I have not been sick for a almost two years now, since I've moved back to California, and just all of the sudden, my throat is killing me):
