Could this be a stroke? My child is 15 and has bipolar. Has been doing great up until about a year ago. MRI says that there is a spot on her left side of the brain.EEG came back obnormal. Amino acids came back obnormal. MRI of the spine came back with a hole in her spinal cord. She has a right side weakness that is geting worse, Memory issues to now she is losing days. Has problems with defining the meaning of words. My child is getting worse and the nueroligist say that they are not sure what it is and keep sending me back for a syc. testing that they have already done and ruled out that it's not her bipolar. What can i do? Could there be something that they are not testing for? i am not sure where to go with this one.

  • Yes, something else is wrong, find another doc. Are you close to Pittsburgh, they have a Ped Hospital. There should be lots of Ped. Speacialists int hat area, I know that Philly has good Hospitals too. Just go see another doc. Let them know that these changes are recent and new and that your child has BiPolar but that this is different. Take all of your medical lab results, x-rays and the whole file if you can. Your doc has to give it to you, it belongs to you. And see someone else. Good Luck and don't give up fighting for your child.

  • I would also consider the possibility that her bipolarity is a symptom of a larger problem. What do you mean by a hole in her spine?

  • Does she have spina bifida? A shunt?
