I know that I've seen a lot of threads about b-12 deficiency I'm new here so I don't know how to navigate through all these forums. I'm sorry if this is the incorrect way how to do it...

In march of this year I started have some slight tingling numbness in my sinus area. On my cheeks. I went to several doctors and they said it was just a allergice reaction and one diagnosed Rosacea. Then the tingling moved down my face and to my head. I got these weird sensations and feelings. Then the numbness went to my extremeties legs, arms, feet, hands...sometimes a burning sensation ont he back of my upper arms. Burning sensation/tingling on my scalp. I started having anxiety attacks, and just depressed because all of this is happening to me.

I'm 37years old. I'm female. Last October I had Lap Band surgery and have lost 134lbs...With much more to go. I felt on top of the world losing weight...getting mobility and exercising more. Now I feel like I've run into a brick wall. I'm tired, irritated all the time. I am stressed that something more is wrong with me than b-12 deficiency.

I was sent to a neurologist they did an MRI on my brain and they said the MRI was fine. They didn't feel like I had MS...By b-12 levels were at 174 which they said were low. I got a serious of six shots in a row, and then was told tofollow up with PCP to get a shot once a month. That is going to happen on Friday. SO its been a month since my shots and I still feel the numbness tingling all over, and I still feel like crud. I feel as if my neurologist just passed the buck after I told them after the shots I still felt the tingling numbness and everything that went along with that. >>>I am having massive hair loss that is stressing me out. I just don't know what to do when I go to the doctor on friday to get my b-12 shot. This will be the first I see this doctor because I changed my primary care physician....so do I tell her I'm still having these symptoms...I"m concerned it is more than b-12..I'm scared that I will never feel normal again...I know I am getting on my familys nerves..but they have been supportive..

I am also taking multivitamin, and I started taking the Methyl 5000mcg sublingual Jarrow on my own, but the numbness tingling, vision, head scalp burning tingling still persist... also burning sensation on abodmen ovary area

Please can anyone give me any advise Thank you.

  • B12 deficiency can cause a lot of problems even for some at the lower end of the normal ranges of it. B12 deficiency may cause:anaemiaconstipationfatigueheadachesbreathing problemsdigestion issuespsychosisdepression, irritablility, moodinessspinal cord degeneration (preceded by numbness, tingling and dizziness)heart palpitations * Be aware that if you have a B12 deficiency... that these deficiencies often occur with other deficiencies in the B group. So i strongly suggest to get yourself a good B vitamin comples on top of what you are already having. Also if you happen to be a smoker, be aware you then will use more B12 than most people do as the cyanide from the cigarette binds to B12 makng it unabsorbable.

  • I had B-12 Deficiency once and I was dead tired. Falling asleep everywhere. I took pills and got it under control. Why not talk to the lap band clinic? Are they not looking after your health in general? I am sure they did not just slap on a band and leave you to your own devices? It sounds like it might be related. I am sure you are getting little nutrition through food alone. Did they not put you on vitamins? I dont know anything about lap bands, but I am currently on Dr. Bernstein and have lost 30 lbs. I get a B vitamin shot 3 times a week. Hair loss can definatley be caused by poor diet as well.Keep going for the shots and hopefully you will feel better soon - dont give up because sometimes it takes awhile to get your storage back up. But I would be talking to the lap band surgeons immediatly, thats for sure.

Have you heasrd of celic Disease. It is a disease where the small interstine can not absorb nutrition which can lead to several illnesses. B-12 difeciancy is one (Pnesius emima) it can also cause osterporisis through inability to absorb calcium, and iron defiancy and so on. If the liningn in the small interstine is damaged it causes these problems. Google celiac disease if you think it could be this you would have to illuminate all gluten from your diet. It is not easy but beleive me it is worth it. Be patient as the changes wont appear over night. Good luck.

  • I dont have a B12 deficiency which shows up on blood tests as my issue is kind of different (Ive got CFIDS) which has been helped greatly by B12 injections. I get two B12 injections a week and have been on those for past couple of years. Seeing you still have symptoms maybe you can see if your doctor will increase your injections, B12 is water soluable and what you cant use is just peed out......... I agree with the previous poster.. I too think your lap band has caused this issue cause you are unable to eat enough to get the vitamins you need. You need to make sure you are on a very good diet with that or you will end up finding yourself deficient in many things (not just B vitamins). When one has surgery too, that causes the body to use more B than normal (anything which puts stress on our bodies make us use more B vitamin).
