i have been having neck pain for about 2 years now, my docter finally sent me for a xray, he said that i had arthritas of the neck, and just take pain killers. then about two months ago, i started with severe shoulder pain, which continued down my left arm, i also have resriction moving my head in all directions, i went to see him, and he looked at me daft, and said it should'nt cause that, just keep taking pain killers, and sent me home. but recently i went for a check up at the hospital to have my teeth out, they told me i would have to stay in hospital to have my teeth out because of my neck problems, they gave me a form to bring home and fill in, on this form it said - pt suffer - spondylotic changes c5-c6 - calufirati disc c6-c7. why has this not been exsplained to me by my docter or any one else. and why can't normal pain killers help with this. i did ask for another xray after the pain in my shoulder and arm started, but my docter said - no need, nothing will have changed with it. what should i do next?

  • Shelley, this is medical jargon for what the doctor has told you. PT is an abbreviation and can mean a number of things. I imagine it is referring to multiple joint problems or it could just mean patient. Spondylitic refers to the arthritis in your neck and calufirati doesn't mean anything as far as I am aware, although I imagine it is referring to a calcified disc in your neck (is this the doctor's hand writing?). You need to discuss with your doctor what kind of pain killers you should use (i.e. anti-inflamatory ones) and whether he can refer you for physiotherapy (or recommend on neck exercises). The pain in your shoulder and arm will almost certainly originate from your neck.
