My son is now 21 months old. He was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes and Anemia in Februray. He has been on insulin and iron supplements ever since. He was also born with hip dysplasia and enlarged kidneys (but kidneys are now normal). My child just looks sick. He is pale with dark circles under his eyes and seems to stay fatigued. He sweats a LOT whenever he sleeps (i do not know if thi is a symptom). People are asking me if he was always this pale or if he's feeling ok??

About 2 weeks ago he fell and hit his head and began vomiting. I took him to the ER where they did a CT and it was fine. Sent us home and the vomiting continued throughout the week (I notified our endocrinologist at all times to keep Diabetes under control) by Friday we were unable to get rid of the ketones and we were admitted in the hospital for 4 days. No one really could figure out what is going on. They did notice that his iron level is low and he has a poor appetite. (blood tests to follow) so they issued further testing at the Mayo Clinic.

I do not have the results from the Mayo Clinic except that he tested negative for Sickle Cell and Chrohn's Disease and that his Ferratin level was a 6.

I do have blood labs from the evening he hit his head and we were in ER. You will see elevated WBC, RBC and RDW CV and low MCV, MCH, MCHC.

WBC 19.10 3.70-13.20
RBC 5.75 3.70-5.30
HGB 9.2 10.5-13.5
HCT 33.2 33.0-39.0
CV 57.7 70.0-86.0
MCH 16.0 23.0-31.0
MCHC 27.7 31.0-37.0
Platelet Count 375 192-486
RDW CV 18.9 11.4-13.9
**All neutrophils, lymhocytes, etc were normal

My biggest questions are if it is cancer related, bone marrow disorder, or a blood disorder? Since the Mayo Clinic results said they could not rule out an abnormality it makes me very nervous that it is not just Iron Deficiency Anemia. Any input is appreciated!!

Worried Momma!
