My Brother has been feeling unwell for several weeks.

He's been to see his doctor who confirms that he's got anemia (10 ? on a range), elevanted platlet count (595); abnormal liver function results (not clear specifically what).

He was sent for a chest x-Ray that found an enlarged heart and fluid on the lungs.

He is so out of breath he can't make it up a flight of stairs (this is a new symptom but it's been getting worse).

He's 53, slightly overweight, not a heavy drinker, non smoker.

His wife and family are really scared - but the doctor has just said that he will have to have an ECG and maybe a scan in three to four weeks time.

We all think this is too long and that he's really poorly.

Has anyone go any idea what might be wrong - I can't find anything which references this group of symptoms (especially the anemia / high platlet count).

Any help or suggestions welcome - I'm at my wits end.

  • He definitely needs to have some more tests. If he seems like his symptoms are getting worse, call and let the doctor know that. Meanwhile, try here: http://yourtotalhealth.ivillage.com/anemia.html
