I am 13 years old and lately I've been getting irregular periods. I just got my period in January. I have never had sex nor do I have any cancer that i am aware of. Is this normal adolesence? Also, i've just started a lacto-ovo vegetarian diet, eating chicken occasionally. Could this cause it? And for some reason my face gets really red sometimes, like out of nowhere. It happens mostly at night, around 12 or 1 in the morning. Please help me and if these things are normal please don't blame me i live with my dad...

  • I wouldn't worry about your period yet. It may be awhile before you get regular. Does your face get red when you're embarrassed or just for no reason? If for no reason, you may have rosacea, although it's unusual in people your age: http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/rosacea.html

Aquila is right..........As u are young ur periods can be irregular its kind of normal. U need to watch u dont loose to much weight also..... As this can affect ur periods.......make sure u eat enough to keep u healthy, so dont overdo the veggie diet. The red flushs could be something u grow out of, my neice use to be like that also for no reason, it passed......if it doesn't then maybe roscea, but as ur so young it most likely will pass, so don't stress over it ! Anyway hun hope this helps u :)big hug !

  • Dont worry about the irregular period, this is normal for quite a while when periods are new to someone. If still irregular in a couple of years, then worry about it.. but right now, that's normal. Make sure you stay in a good heathy, medically recommended, weight range for your height and age. If you are in that healthy weight range.. you shouldnt be getting periods affected by your diet.

  • Since you just started having periods in January, I wouldn't worry about the frequency yet. It will take awhile to get regulated. And I am guessing that your red face could be your hormones kicking in as you just began having periods. If these symptoms worry you, please talk to your dad. A visit to the doctor might help ease your worries. :)
