Hi, my healthy 2 year-old son started having very high fever last sunday, by monday his gums were all swollen, almost bleeding. Yesterday at the doctor's office they gave him some antibiotic, took a blood culture and today has some diarrhea, but the doctor has no idea what it could be. He doesn't have any other symptoms at all, only high fever (104.6F) and the swollen gums. Also he has stopped eating because of the pain in his mouth. Any ideas anyone?

  • Sorry to scare you, but have they done a blood count for leukemia? Toothpaste reaction, trench mouth (which the antibiotic might clear up)?

  • Some one kissed my daughter when she was two and gave her herpes1. She had a very high fever and swollen gums...Poor little thing. I took her to the acupuncturist and she got better but still has the disease.

  • If he is still not eating, give him pedialyte so he will not get dehydrated.(fluids with electrolytes in it)Perhaps his doctor will give something for the pain/fever? Even Children's Tylenol over the counter? It is viral so it should "calm down" When was his latest vaccine?which one was he given last? I hope he is feeling well soon...and you too:) mommy cat

  • You have to ask for a blood test.
