For the last couple of months I 've been feeling like my heart is pounding really hard and fast. I cant sleep on my chest at night anymore because i feel it pounding so much. Its driving me crazy what's making my heart beat so rapidly?

  • You can't 'feel' like it is beating fast. It either is or it isn't and you need to check your pulse. It is worth getting your blood pressure checked also as it might be a little high for some reason. Paradoxically, the more you listen to your heart beating in bed, the louder and faster it will beat.

  • Have you taken your pulse? Resting pulse should run 70-100. put your middle and ring finger on the inside of the opposite wrist vein and count beats for 30 secs. then X by 2. hyperthyroid caused me to have a resting heartrate of 170 and up a lot. I would also get heart palpitations, which is where you can hear/feel your hear beating hard for a period of time-especially at nightime.hypoglycemia also causes my resting rate to go much higher than 100.Is this your only symptom? You may need to see a cardiologist.
