Headache, numbness, dizziness...HELP!

In May 2002 I started having strange sensations in my head, not exactly pain, more like pressure or numbness all around the crown and ears. It is tough to describe, but feels kind of like after taking out a too-tight ponytail that has been in all day or taking off a hat after a long period of wearing.

All CT/MRI normal, but the symptoms have never gone away and have since progressed.

I now have dizzy spells, occasional "zapping" feelings that run from one side of my head to the other, a whooshing sound in my left ear, numbness in my right arm, frequent disorientation/confusion, exaustion even after adequate sleep and constant neck pain.

The headache has not left for even one hour since 2002. I am beginning to lose hope of ever finding a cause. My doctor says I "look great on paper", and the following have all been negative/normal- CT/MRI of head, CT of sinuses, ear testing, chest X-rays, blood tests, breathing tests. I have also tried acupuncture and massage. I am out of ideas and unsure how to proceed. I would be greatful for any direction.

Also, I am a 34 year old female. I do not smoke or drink, and am 5'6", 127 pounds.

  • if your doctor doesnt see anything wrong find a good Chiropractor and have him take a lookthis could be caused by an out of place vertebra pinching a nerve this is common in the Chiropractic profession and an MD wouldnt have any idea it was even occuring in any scan :P-Blakelyneal

  • Hello Petra,I was wondering if you ever received a definitive diagnosis for your headache, dizziness, etc. My husband has been suffering from similar sypmtoms for over a year now, and the doctors have given told him that it could be due to anxiety, stress, or even cervical spine problems, however, no stress relieving techniques, nor hours of physical therapy / osteopath therapy are helping him. We are desperate to find a diagnosis. Can you help? Thanks

  • My sister-in-law had similar symptoms and this is what we found....ucsfhealth.org/common/.../fall2007/dural_fistula/index.htmlIt could be many things, but for her it came down to AVM, Transverse sigmoid sinus fistula, or DAVF. It's a malformation of veins and arteries in the head so check all of these out and I hope it helps. The wooshing sound was really taking it's toll on her relationships with her family because she couldn't sleep well or focus. Good luck to you all!

  • You should go online and look up basilar migraines. My daugheter was diagnosed with this, and is on topamax and trileptal. She is doing much better now, with the fainting, headaches, dizzeness and many others. A neurologist was her helpful grace.Good LuckIn May 2002 I started having strange sensations in my head, not exactly pain, more like pressure or numbness all around the crown and ears.
