The last time I had sex was 5 months ago, and I have just discovered that I have trichomoniasis. The partner that I had 5 months ago said that he's recently been tested and has no STIs at all. Before tric, I was diagnosed with BV. Could BV have lead to me getting tric? Is tric only transmitted through intercourse? I have recently been very susceptible to yeast infections and boils on my vagina as well.. what does that mean?

BV is a problem caused by bacteria basically two main types of bacteria which increase in numbers due to douching or anything that increases the alkalinity of the vagina. The increase in alkalinity kills off the good bacteria ie the lactobacilli and the bad gus Mobiluncus and Prevotella move in and help make the nasy secretions.Tricomonas is a not a bacterium, it is a protozoan and as such has a nucleus and flagella and a horrid little spike that sticks out one end. The organism swims in a spinning motion and the flagela and the spike are what irritate your tissues and make you itch. Now it is possible that men do not feel the itch (or get the discharge ) that women do but I am fairly sure it would be on a STD panel but men sometimes lie when they feel it may get them what they want.Tric is basically only transmitted through intercourse but it can be passed on through direct exposure to fresh discharge ie if you used a towel that someone who was infected had very recently also used. Infections by yeasts and boils all seem to indicate that your normal flora is disturbed. The normal flora of the vagina usually fight off nasties such as yeasts and Staphylococci but we know your flora is disturbed because you have had BV.Douching and courses of antibiotics can disturb the normal flora.Hopefully once the triic has been treated you will slowly go back to normal.good luck

  • I just want to add that your ex-bf might not know what was on his STD panel and it probably did not include a test for Trich. So he was told everything was negative, but that is because they don't usually test for Trich. unless symptoms warrant it.Let him know he needs to go back to the doctor and be tested specifically for this so that he can get medication and not pass it on to someone else.
