  • What is an EMG?Could the pain be associated with not using my hand for a long period of time.I have lost about 50% of the strength in my hand during this time.My surgery was Aug. 7th 2008,over 4 months ago!I didn't do anything with my hand for over 2 months. Thank You for your reply

  • I am so sorry about the pain your in. I believe what you may have is RSD, reflex sympathetic dystrophy, from your surgery. RSD is basically nerve damage but it is a very painful disease. The swelling your talking about is exactly what happened to me and what most RSD patients go through, same with the pain. The hard part is to find a doctor who can rule this out, some nuerologist know it but its pain specialist that really know about this disease. If it is RSD you need to get diagnosed, I myself went 4 years and some have even gone as long as 20 years but the sooner you get diagnosed the sooner you can get treatment. If it is RSD one thing that is a big no is ICE, ice will make it worse and can help it spread as RSD can spread pass the injury site. My was in the foot for 4 years but has now gone into my spine to include the whole body that is why it is very important to start treatment. I wish you luck and that your pain will get better
