hi all, i had anorexia but have been alright for four years, but still have thin hair all over my body. i do not know what to do. is it possible to have still abnormal hormonal levels (i have a healthy weight, 5o perc.) and shall i take some medication or i just have to go and remove the hair??
Please, help me, I feel very helpless about this. I also feel like having weak bones can be this one a "post-symptom"?

  • I know that weight bearing exercise builds bone thickness & strength, but you will need adequate calcium, magnesium, and phosphorus in your diet, to build them from. Apart from that, all I can suggest is that you consult a dermatologist, and inquire about treatments, such as laser therapy, but try a small, unobtrusive area first, to test your skin's reaction.

  • Excess hair is due to too much male type hormones called androgens. This is called hirsutism and is often the consequence of lack of the hormones that normally counter the excess androgens. In many women this is caused by the lack of the hormone progesterone, which blocks conversion of normal testosterone (which maintains our muscles) into a more potent form of this hormone called di hydrotestosterone(DHT). Both men and women make testosterone, just in different amounts. Too much DHT promotes excess body hair and balding. Men have more testosterone so they produce more DHT and more body hair and more balding. Progesterone can be deficient when women don't ovulate regularly--which eventually happens to all women. :)
