I first got gout about years ago and at that time I was a heavy drinker, so my doctor told me to knock off the booze, take some pills for six months and evedrything would be ok.
Unfortunately, though I dont drink anymore, the gout has come back to haunt me at times. First I had it in my big toes, since then I have experienced it in my ankles, knees and elbows. It has affected my elbow to the point now where I need an operation to remove a bursa.

Lately the frequency of hte attacks is increasing and it is effectingme to the point where my joints are so sore I can do nothing but sit around the house. I am an active person and this si really bringing me down.

I would love to hear of any remedies of ideas, similiar experiences people have had out there.

Mark

  • Gout can be extremely painful...I have heard that celery juice and tart cherry juice are very helful. If you don't have a juicer - take a couple stalks of celery and put in water and cook for 10 mins and drink this tea. You can get tart cherry juice concentrate - Knudsen makes one.Stay away from items like pork products, smoked foods, processed foods, etc. These can make it worse, or bring on an attack.Hope this helps.

  • My husband had several attacks of gout, was unable to take the cochine, and is on Comadin so was wary of throwing his protime off, with Indocin. Tried the vinegar, soda, celery, cherry juice, etc. Finally gave him 50 mg. of Indocin, knocked it out--only took it when he has sx, did not affect his protime

  • Dear Mark, I have had gout for 20 years, and it put paid to my Proffesional soccer and golf carreer. I was submitted to hospital not being able to walk, and had a bursar cut off my elbow. The Dr at the hospital put me on a course of 300mg Puricos, one per day for life, anti inflammitary (Celebrex). I took 1 puricos and 2 celebrex every day for 1 month, then reduced the celebrex to 1 per day, and now for 1.5 years have had not one attack of gout, and only take my 1 puricos tablet everyday. It's not expensive and I now drink red wine, whiskey, beer, eat red meat with no gout at all. I had gout everyday for 15 years, and couldn't walk without a limp. Now I paly golf competitively again go to gym and feel great. The Puricos is key, and will agitate the gout in the beginning, that is why the celebrex is important in the beginning. Puricos is cheap, and made my life worthwhile again

  • Dear Mark,I get gout when my uric acid levels become elevated and I normally get pain in my instep which stops me from walking. Initially the doctor gave me cortisone injections which clear up the symptoms right away but is not recommended for continious use. He next put me on Indocin 50MG to be taken on as a required basis. Now whenever I get the gout pain I take either 1 or 2 Indocin tablets (never more) and the pain symptoms go away.Good luckMike

  • There's a wonderful formula that some health food stores sell called "Goutrol". I had it for weeks and weeks and after a couple of days on Goutrol, it went away. When it starts to flare up, I just take one Goutrol and that nips it in the bud. You might have to buy it online if your local stores don't sell it.

  • Woke up 4 days ago with pain in foot - felt bruised (actually felt broken and like it had been hit with a sledge hammer) - self diagonsed gout after reading on net. On 4th day in the night the pain was so bad i went to hospital - could hardly drive. Gave me an injection for pain this lasted 6 hours and they confirmed definatly gout. Did some reading and tried the bicarb soda method - half a tea spoon in half glass of water for every hour for 4 hours. Didnt take any inflammation tablets or pain killers. Its still there but starting to go, can walk again now. Going to step up the water now to two litres or three litres a day and modify diet a little and see how it goes - will keep you all posted. My uncles uses Puricos and hasnt had an attack for 5 years. PS Can almost straighten my toe now!!
