I got giardia when I was in Nicaragua this summer, and it didn't go away with metronindazole. Does anyone know of any natural treatments to get rid of it? The antibiotic really made me sick and I don't want to try it again.

  • http://www.emedicine.com/emerg/topic215.htmThis website tells you about the specific treatments for Giardiasis. There are more drugs than Flagyl. What couldn't you handle about Flagyl? The intestinal side effects are not wonderful for sure. I had Giardiasis back in the late 1970's and got it from backpacking in this wilderness area. I had to be on two rounds of Flagyl before the Giardiasis went away.I don't believe there any natural remedies for it.If the intestinal side effects are intolerable you could try taking something like Culturelle. I'd take 3 times per day while your taking the Flagyl and then continue the same protocol for 1 week and then take Culturelle once a day for a month.
