problem for 13 years. worsened over time. daily occurance. tests for celiacs, upper and lower GIs, food elimination diets, medications, accupuncture, all to no avail. can pass gas easily in the morning, but after bowel movement, stomach and intestines cramp up and gassiness increases and cramps up inside. symptoms lessen during 3rd trimester of pregnancy and during menstrual cycle. cigarettes and alcohol seem to relax muscles and allow gas to pass, but i am not a smoker and alcohol is not the solution. am currently taking some homeopathic medicines and haven't had relief yet. have heard OTC heartburn meds like zantac could help but why? will try them after homeopathic trial. any suggestions? please, my life is miserably uncomfortable and the cramps are debilitating not only physically but emotionally as well. very desperate for help and would even try eating tree bark for the rest of my life if it would help!!!!!!!!

  • Hello,I do have a few suggestions that I believe would help, as well as, about light medications that are effective. If you haven't already, try to eliminate or lower your consumption of soda pop, spicey, and fatty, greasy foods. That should lessen the severity of the gas and bloating. Also, people find that milk can be soothing. And I congratulate you on trying homepathic methods to help yourself. I spend most of my time in a pharmacy and I'm very cautious when people jump right on prescription medication without trying other methods first. If you feel you should try medication I would recommend trying Zantac (ranitidine). It is a histimine-2 blocker, which helps reduce the amount of acid your stomach produces. It comes in strengths of 75mg, 150mg, and 300mg. If you would like to try it, I would start with the 75mg and see how that works for you.As for another medication, I would recommend Prilosec (omeprazole). It works the same way as Zantac does and can be purchased in OTC and the therapy consists of taking one pill every 24 hours, for 14 days. And can be repeated if needed. The last drug I would recommend if all else fails, would be Nexium. It too works the same way as the others previously mentioned but also helps repair the esophagus from the damage heartburn and GERD cause.Hopefully that helped somewhat :)
