well, im a fifteen year old girl. I'm worried about my older brother he has one swollen ear. It happened a year ago and it never disappeared. It did reduce in swelling. Today my brother came home with his ear being really really swollen. About twice the size it was before. Problem is he is austistic and is unable to tell us whether he is in pain or how he got it. The doctor seems to be of no help since he didnt do anything much to help before. My brother does not live with us and we did not take him to the doctor. His caretakers did. I looked it up online and possible causes is a change in new medications.

Any advice ideas would be great.

  • Has your brother been to an ENT (Ear, Nose, and Throat) doctor? There is a rare condition related to inner ear infections called mastoiditis. The bone behind the ear becomes infected. It can cause swelling, redness, and pain. Usually a fever is present. If this is left untreated, it can lead to severe complications. In any case, I would think an ENT would be his best bet to figure out what is going on. Your brother is lucky to have you looking out for him.
