I am a 58 year old englishman who has lived in the philippines for approximately two years.I have no history of nosebleeds until recently. They are heavy and last between ten mintues and several hours. One required hospitalisation and a transfusion due to loss of blood. They are occuring almost daily but sometimes I do not get one for a couple of days. They never occur outside the house, only inside.I have seen an ENT doctor here but frankly,he was of little help and has suggested a CT scan.My house is very warm during the day.The bedrooms are air conditioned, but the main room has only fans to cool it.Can anybody help? I would add that, when these attacks occur,I feel perfectly well.My blood pressure is normal.

  • I have had chronic nosebleeds since I was about five. Mostly during the summermonths. I have been to the doctor only once for the problem. He said that I had a thin nasal membrane and that heat and arrid/conditions was the cause. He told me not to worry unless I lost a lot of blood. I tried putting a humidifier in the room but it had no effect. I have noticed that weather changes have an effect. Say going from 40 degrees f to 30 within a day usually gets my nose going. Sometimes all it takes is a quick body movement and it starts up. I wouldn't worry to much unless it doesn't stop. If it doesn't, I would get some bloodwork done (Iron Count, Hemophilia, etc..). Sometimes just a wad of toilet paper in the snoz does the trick.
