Freckles in my vagina

Hi -- I recently noticed I have several small black/dark brown and light brown freckles on the outer rim of the lips of my vagina. It is not a vein because they definitely look more like the kind of freckles I get after staying out in the sun. Even though they are not raised and do not itch, I am concerned because I didn't have them in my vagina when I was younger, and they seem to be increasing. What is going on?

  • go get a pap and ask a doctor about it; it could just be nothing or it could be something...

  • I recently noticed the same thing. I think its just part of aging. However, I'm going to get mine checked out too.

  • While it is very uncommon (less than 2% of vaginal cancers), it is possible to have a melanoma in the vagina. Any lesion which is dark should be checked, for sure, by a doctor.Remember the ABC's of skin cancer:Asymmetry - do any two 'halves' of the lesion look different?Border - If the border is jagged or uneven, or if the dark lesion is surrounded by a light or white borderColor - red, blue, black, brown, tan...but it can be just about any colorDiameter - any lesion (mole) that has larger diameter than a pencil eraser is suspect.Evolution - Perhaps most important, is it changing?Good luck, I hope everything is ok.

  • I noticed the same thing on myself a few years ago and got it checked out by my doctor. It was the latest stage of pre-cancer before becoming cancer. Mine was called VIN III. My regular gynecologist didn't know what it was and did a biopsy, then sent me to a cancer doctor where I've had 2 surgeries since. I just saw another spot yesterday, and it's been almost two years since I've had a surgery. When your skin changes color down there, don't ignore it! Also bear in mind my Gyno had NO idea what it was until she biopsied. Mine is caused by HPV. But it causes Vulvar cancer instead of cervical. Please go to the doctor. They can do a simple vinegar test to see any abnormalities of the skin. I hope for the best for you.

I found freckles on me and my gyno says they are just freckles... but i am still concerns. Mine are small... (like the tip of a sharpie marker) they are dark brown. Im very worried.
