  • They are actually yeast balls. I had them all the time, made me very self conscious of my breath. I am 43 years old and three years ago I had my tonsils removed along with some of the fatty tissue in my throat. My tonsils had deep grooves in them and these yeast balls would form, I would cough them up almost daily. They smelled horrible. Since I had my throat surgery, I no longer have them. These are very common, both of my daughters get them too and they still have their tonsils as well.

  • If it is yeast, then I recommend Threelac, one of the best products out there. You can google it or visit the following websites: www.candidasupport.org and www.wholeapproach.com - the latter website has a good questionaire you can print out and take to determine your level of candida. I absolutely DON'T recommend western medical antifungals for treating candida - they are quite toxic. I have given Threelac to my patients with excellent results, and myself take it from time to time to keep my candida in check. Another home remedy to try is gargle with a highly diluted tea tree oil and water solution. A good quality probiotic is helpful to build up your flora and stop the yeast from overgrowing. Hope this helps.Doctor of Oriental Medicine

  • Actually, the lumps (aka tonsil stones) are collections of food, sinus drip, bacteria, etc.. that collect in the crevices of your tonsils where they are compressed and ferment into that god awful smell... I have had them off and on my entire life but more so during allergy season when I have a regular drip. They are also exacerbated by smoking.

  • actually it is excess bile. Bile is sort of yellowish small little round foul smelling things that come out of the back of your throat. You have two ducts where the bile comes out on either side of the back of your throat. I get them from time to time because I tend to eat alot of things high in fats, which is where bile is derived from. They smell like fecal matter to me. Anyway they are quite annoying to have. But the only thing you can do to get rid of the smell in your mouth is to eat something and then brush your teeth.

  • Tonsilar debris or stones? Gargle with warm water to dislodge them. Can you scrape that area without gagging?

  • Sometimes the simple cures seem to work better than the sophisticated ones. For throat infections of all types, I take a small baggie of salt to bed and as I'm getting around to sleeping, I lick my finger, dip it into the salt, and then lick the salt off. If you do this several times it allows the salt to slowly coat the inside of your mouth/throat. Don't drink anything - it will wash the salt away. Doing this before sleeping allows the salt to sit there all night and that usually does the trick for me. Also, have you tried gargling with high proof wiskey? I don't drink, but sometimes drinking alcohol helps on oral infections where you can't use rubbing alcohol.Just some suggestions. Hope they help.

  • This sounds like chronic tonsilitis. You should meet with an ENT to have them looked at and whether they should be removed. Antibiotics get rid of the purilent material but it will come back.

  • Sounds to me like you have what they call tonsillar crypts. It is not bile. Bile is a liquid and secreted from the liver (much further south). THese crypts are simply grooves within the tonsils which can collect food. The area is wet, warm and provides food for the normal oral bacteria to grow. As a result the bacteria can grow there happily producing the foul odour. The rotten smell is probably due to what they call anaerobic bacteria, bacteria which grow better in the low oxygen levels in the rotting food. • I'm pretty sure what you have is tonsil stones/tonsilloliths... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tonsilloliths I've had them for years and they're really hard to get rid of. Fortunately mine don't cause bad breath, but I can see how they could. I push on my tonsils with a cotton swab or my finger tip to dislodge them.

  • I also get those too. My doctor said gargling would help. Sometimes food particles get stuck behind your tonsils... something to do with bacteria that causes the smell. Try gargling with sea salt or a common mouth wash morning and night or after meals.
