Two years ago the ball of my left foot started to ache. A few weeks later while playing volleyball barefoot in my wedding dress, I jumped, landed and felt a searing pain. I had not landed wrong; there was no swelling, just severe pain. The following day I could not walk on that foot and went to the doctor. They X-rayed and found nothing. The conclusion was I had torn a ligament or strained a muscle. I had done that in the past and this pain was different. I was in a boot for 6 weeks. The pain is not as severe now but has spread. Both of my feet hurt now and it is moving up my legs. Morning is the worst and after sitting still for a while. I am unable to exercise the way I used to, and feel lost. I have tried cortisone shots, and anti inflammatory meds and neither helped. I refuse to be on pain meds and at this point am just dealing with it. Any ideas?? My doctor has no idea what is wrong and says I have chronic pain. DUH, what is causing it!!!!

  • Orthotics might help. Also shoes with a wider toe box. Are you a woman wearing those insanely high heels? I wouldn't think it is gout. Have your husband give you foot massages daily! Is the pain like you'd stepped on a walnut? Plantar fasciitis. Stress fractures don't show up on xrays for several weeks, have they done a repeat? Peripheral vascular disease. PVD?

  • I wear orthodics, I only wear good shoes. I have 2 pair of tennis shoes that I have been fitted for and I replace them every 6-8 months. I do not wear any high heals or tight shoes and never have. gout is a no, I masage my own feet every morning before I stand on them. Plantar Faciatis was ruled out and yes I have had follow up x-rays. We have also recently ruled out bone cancer. I will look into the PVD. Thank you

  • Try and get a refferal to a specialist pain management teamThe symptoms you describe are very similar to my daughters and she has just been diagnosed with RSD / CRPS - We saw about 5 seperate consultants before we got someone who knew what the problem was as it doesn't show up on XRays, MRI Scans etcGood Luck !!!!
