  • Um I am sorry - WHO is being rude?! Sounds like the last poster to me...what was the point of that, really. Does your dad have pitting edema: when he presses into his leg does it cause an indentation? If so this is a more serious water metabolism/ kidney problem. Has he been diagnosed with ascites? Does he take other meds than the lasix? Some meds will cause water retention. How is his urination? Any problems? Any other symptoms like hypertension, heart troubles, prostate? A good remedy for a natural diuretic is to take some fresh parsley (organic if you can find it) and steep a bunch in 4 cups boiling water. Let steep for 1/2 hour or so and strain. Drink this as a tea and it should really help. If you can provide answers to the above questions I'll try to find the post again to help out. Best wishes.DOM

  • i was present at a branch of the y.m. c.a. in1966.and spoke to a chinese doctor at our meals. he had escaped from mao tse tungs "cultural revolution."i expect that you do not know what that was.people like you were licenced to humiliate and often to kill people like me.he was the doctor who performed the "operations "under acupuncture anaesthesia-supposedly.he told me it was part of the revolutionary campaign to establish chinese "science"and "medicine"as equivalents to the real skills of the west ,in which he had been trained.there had been no acupuncture anaesthesia ,he told me;sure, the needles were put in ,more or less at random, for the camera.but it was all epidural with local back up.in some cases, involving abdominal surgery, the organs being operated on were not the property of the smiling faces being interviewed.it was done by cutting and editing.my friend said to me"the guns were not actually present in the operating theatre you know ,but we knew what would happen if we did not co-operate."prior to this time, acupuncture was regarded as something quaint and silly,in china as well as the west.like dragons or bound feet.the change in its perceived status derives from mao s cultural revolution.real doctors quickly realised that they had been handed a quick and easy means of getting the suggestible neurotics and time wasters out of their offices ,and went along with it :that is the true history of acupuncture.if you knew any real history you might be in with a chance.a person who is more polite is less harmed than one with holes in him, especially when what he should be doing is to go to a real doctor quickly.i dont see what the problem is with being polite.is it against the law in america? is spitting still compulsory?

  • Hi rayckcho, To answer your question on ascites: it is an abnormal fluid accumulation in the abdomen. It is serious, and should be ruled out by your doctor...ask for them to check for this - they usually do a physical exam and use percussion/ascultation to look for a "wave" sensation. DOM

  • Okay people, let's move on. Did you try the parsley tea I recommended? I know it is just a lowly home remedy, but in some cases I have seen very good results. You should ask your doc about ascites nest time you visit.Best wishes.DOM

  • Should just increase urinary output. Fresh parsley is very fortifying and high in calcium and other vitamins. Just don't take this tea at the same time as other meds...give yourself 2 hours before or after.Best wishes.DOM

  • If your dad has kidney issues he needs to watch his calcium intake. Calcium can cause several problems for anyone with kidney problems. Raising the legs can also help with the edema.

Kindly advise if there is any other good medication for this problem? Thank you very much in advance!I wish I could help. I had a baby eight years ago, which I had gotten really, really bad edema in my waist , legs and feet. I mean I normally wear a size nine shoe and I could not get a size 11 on. I was told it was part of pregnancy,it did go down after the baby but never went away. Some time my legs swell to the point I can't get my jeans off. So I have had swelling for eight years, fatiuge that is ruining my life, and over my health is going down hill, I had only one swollen groin lymph node, now all are pretty swollen on both sides, I recently got told I have Hasimoto's thyriodtist however the doctor is swearing that is not the cause. I wish I could help, I would be very interested to find out about your dads outcome. Best of Luck

  • I have a question about taking the parsley. Does it need to be taken as a tea to work? Can it work just as well by juicing & drinking it (i do raw vegetable juice) regularly? Thank you.

  • AcuannI have a question for you. I have really bad fluid retention even if I take my HCTZ pills daily from my waist down and its painful even to sit. I feel like a board trying to bend in half and when getting up to stand my legs feel like they want to collapse. My knees look like they have doubled in size and I'm not sure what to do already. I have gone to my doctor over and over again and it seems as though my doctor doesn't care. Is there any advice that you could give me? Oh I recently was in the hospital for walking pneumonia and it seems as though they filled me up like a water balloon with 30 pounds of water. I drink lots of water and find that even though I drink water my throat feels really dry and my saliva like paste and really sticky. I would like to try the parsley tea, would I cut the parsley up? Also do I still take the HCTZ pills while trying the parsley tea?Thank you in advanceMo
