I have been suffering with urethra pain for 3 years.I need to urinate very often and it is painful when I do.I feel like I can never really empty my bladder. Having sex is very painful. My primary doctor told me I have a weak pelvic floor due to my hysterectomy four years ago. I have been to three different urologists who have told me three different ways to treat my pain. The first doctor ran alot of tests and painful exams and told me there is nothing wrong with me and I have imaginary pain. The second Doctor told me I have puss in my urethra and he PAINFULLY scraped it out, then put me on a low dose of antibiotics for six months, telling me to come back for another scraping in six months. The third doctor told me not to scrape out the natural secretions in my urethra and to stop taking the antibiotics, and to start biofeedback therapy.I have stopped drinking caffinated beverages, I do not drink alcohol.I do drink 100% cranberry juice.I am afraid to see another doctor because of the painful examinations.Does any one have any good advise for me?

  • You mentionedhysterectomy before, what is the cause.I think urine culture and high vaginal swab culture for microbes are essentials.ultrasound and CT scan abdomen is vital..I think this is the correct tract for establishing the diagnosis...

  • I am a Doctor of Oriental Medicine, not a Western MD, so I of course cannot diagnose you. But I can offer you advice on what has helped me... There are some good homeopathic remedies to help with bladder dysfunction and/or pain. Hylands and Heel are two good companies. Take a homeopathic remedy frequently at first - every 15 minutes until your symptoms improve...Cantharis is often used for bladder irriation, and Heel makes a product called Uri-Cleanse. Chinese medicine is VERY helpful for genito-urinary problems. I used to have chronic UTI's (esp if eating greasy/fried foods or High Fructose Corn Syrup) AND incontinence after the birth of my daughter. Hardly ever have problems anymore, and when I do herbal remedies usually knock things out before I get a full blown UTI. An NCCAOM certified Oriental Medical practititoner who is also certified in Chinese herbology would really help you in my opinion. Acupuncture is not painful, and most people are amazed at how relaxing it is. www.acufinder.com to find a practititoner near you. Another treatment to try is called NAET (Namubudripad Allergy Elimination Technique) this is a noninvasive treatment used to diagnose and clear allergies - it is possible you developed an allergy/hyperimmune response after your hysterectomy (why did you have a hysterectomy and did you have a full or partial one?). NAET is fantastic, but takes a real commitment and time. www.naet.com Best wishesDOM

  • Hiya - First things first, please stop drinking cranberry juice. I know lots of places tell you its good for your bladder, but when your suffering from urinary pain the acid in the cranberry juice will only make things worse. Try cutting it out completely and see how you go. Second of all, try taking a urinary alkaliser (whatever they're called in your country, in Australia we have something called URAL.) This will take out the acid from your urine and may reduce your pain. Finally, I suggest you ask your Doctor/Urologist about Interstitial Cystitis - which is a chronic inflammation of the bladder and urethra, which can be caused by many things (it's quite mysterious) but there ARE ways to help you with your pain. go to this website www.ic-network.com and look around. Painful sex/vaginal pain can be caused by Vulvodynia which often occurs with IC. If you want to message me on the IC-Network, look me up my name is Pixiechick on there. I hope this helps you a bit :) Good luck and message me if you need. She had DMSO treatments, scrapings, experiemented with Elmiron and an operation; finally she ended up on pain medication. Every once in awhile she has an IC flare up which is just like the pain you are describing in your urethra, go to the IC web site the gal mentioned, quit drinking cranberry juice and cut out any acidic foods like she recommended and get to a doctor. We are both sympathetic towards you, it does sound like a case of IC to both of us.

  • "Janel"I hear you! I have had the same issue for over a year now. Painful urination is the biggest issue for me too. Im prone to UTI's and when the come, im in agony and have around a hour to get antibiotics after the first signs or it keeps in bed for days! I had a chat with a natural therapist and they thought it sounded like interstitial cystitis. I was only given this advice of recent so cannot tell you it has worked fully for me but it has helped so far.You need to keep your urines PH alkaline, so a teaspoon of baking soda in water once a day (nasty tasting)Keep your bodys PH low by avoiding all Fizzy drinks, sweet drinks and junk food high in sugar, your body processes these and uses up you bodys natural alkalines to do so, causing the bi product to be acidic in ur urine.Eat lots of veges and cut back on refined foods and lower your meat intake. Leafy green veges r the best, i have silverbeet or cabbage or lettuce every day atleast once.No coffee or tea unless herbal teas, i find apricot teas make me feel great for the night, awesome to have before bed.And of course drinking water. lots of water. I drink 4 litres a day.Hope this helps, as I am feeling just as lost as you are! :)I have been suffering with urethra pain for 3 years.I need to urinate very often and it is painful when I do.I feel like I can never really empty my bladder. • The only thing I'm experienced in is pain everyday for the last 3 months, but today the Urologist inserted a scope through the urethra into my bladder after blood in my urine was found. The pressure from the scope and the flushing popped something inside, and as it drained what was backed up, the pain was gone instantly. Thought I was going to go through the ceiling. I'm going to be sore for a while. I even had a MRI. I went on line and found the term paraurethral duct and glands that drain into the urethria. Thought I can't explain it, I think it there was a blockage. If any physician tells you the pain is in your head, I would question his credentials and find another doctor or GYN. Don't let the doctors off with that response. You need to find somebody qualified.
