Hello my name is Benjamin and I am a 28 year old male. I have been experiencing abnormal awareness of my rapid heart beat along with discomfort of my left upper chest and shortness of breath. Then I go into a panic thinking I will have a heart attack. It comes and goes with no warning and last anywhere from a few minutes or until I stop thinking about it without realizing it. Please help me diagnose this strange feeling.:(

These can be controlled by medication or other techniques (eg positive visualization to relax while focused slow abdomenal breathing).

  • This could also be to much caffiene. I used to have the strange awareness of actually feeling mu heart beating in my chest. When I cut out the caffiene it stopped. But sometimes when I get the wrong coffe (instead of caffiene lite) it will do it again. I get the tingles and the wooshing in my head and ears. Cutting out the caffiene may help. But always remember civilian advice should never take the place of medical.Take care

  • Have you consulted a doctor. Perhaps you need to have tests done to determine the cause of this. Could be high blood pressure.

  • See this about physical causes of "panic attacks." It could be mitral valve prolapse: http://www.medicinenet.com/panic_disorder/article.htm
