Hi. I am a 30 yr. old female who was released from the hospital on July 3rd after spending a week and a day there for bilateral bacterial pneumonia. It progressed from a runny nose to hospitalization in 3 weeks. I had a clear x-ray two weeks before I was hospitalized, so they were sure it was bronchitis and treated me with steroids, which I'm sure lowered my immune system some and let this infection just take over. I was given a 10 day course of Vantin upon my release and on the 9th of July, was given another x-ray that came out clear and was pronounced cured and taken off of oxygen.

Everyone keeps telling me that even after being "cured" pneumonia takes a while to get over, but for two weeks, I've been running a fairly consistent low grade fever with other symptoms as well. The fever will run between 99.2 to 100.4 and it varies widely throughout the day. I start out the in the morning with a normal temp and during the day it swings from normal to the higher temps seemingly without reason and sometimes within half hour increments of each other. I was told by the nurse that low grade fever is normal for recovery, but I don't buy it.

I also got a cold (complete with a double ear infection and conjunctivitis) right after and was put on Zithromax given my recent history.

I've got sweats, not just night, but all day. The night sweats happen whether I do anything or not, but during the day, if I exert myself at all, I'm drenched. Going to the grocery store, I sweat so much, my hair looks like I've just gone swimming. It's that bad. My breathing isn't SO bad, but since I've caught the cold, I've noticed it's worse that it was when I was first declared better. I can still get to the 3500 ml mark on my volumetric exerciser and I couldn't even get to 2000 when I was in the hospital, so there IS improvement and I DO realize that this isn't a disease you just bounce back from, but is it normal for these things to be going on almost 3 weeks after my release? The constant fevers worry me more than anything. Could someone assuage my fear or possibly direct me to something I might be looking into. Thanks so much!

Meg
