For a few days, I have been feeling terrible with what I first believed were nothing but allergies. But over the course of time, they have gotten worse. I have had dry lips, constant runny nose, violent cough, the area around my right eye is swollen, and I have suffered a loss of appetite. Since I have a terrible fear of doctors and no insurance, I was hoping if someone could tell me if I have allergies or something else. Any help would be appreciated! :D

  • How long have you experienced these symptoms? Did they all come at once, or develop individually? What's the weather like where you live/ what season are you in? Have you ever experienced allergies before? Coming on-line is no substitute for a real doctor actually looking at you. Beware the self-diagnostic avenue. That said, I doubt anyone here can help you until you give more information.Best wishes.

  • I've had the symptoms for about a few days. It's cold winter weather here. Yes, I have experienced allergies. But I am only allergic to cats and pollen and dust. Our house has been clean and I haven't been around the cats for awhile. Of course, the pollen isn't out yet because it's still winter.

  • Have you tried to take an antihistamine like Benadryl? Does it work for your symptoms? Chances are if it does, it's an allergy of some kind. If not, we can explore other options. The shortest path between two points on a plane is a straight line-- try the simple route first. There is always the possibility that new allergies have developed. Have you used a new brand of face wash or laundry detergent? Loss of appetite can be blamed on your other symptoms, notably the runny nose. Runny nose, cough, and the lips can all be attributed to the season. The swollen eye is likely some sort of inflammatory response.....could be allergies or could be something like pink eye. Does it hurt/itch?

  • Yes, my eye does itch, and the area is more so pink than red.
