Age: 24
Sex: Male
Weight: 170
Height: 6' 1"
Duration 10-30 minutes

Just because I know some of these things can be caused by stress I do work in a call center where I speak to (at times) extremely angry and combative people and required to meet certain stats or face disciplinary action. I work on average 40 hour weeks 5 days a week at times I work an additional 2 hours of overtime on any given day. I would say my stress level is high right now considering our contract is up for negotiation and I might not have a job soon, I am living alone supporting myself financially, and attending online classes to complete my degree. I drink on occasion not nearly as much as I have in the past, occasionally smoke marijuana and I smoke a pack a day of cigarettes.

Since I was a child 10 or 11, I have had this reoccurring condition. When I was younger I recall the symptoms not being as intense. In the past two days I have had one instance each day however the symptoms seemed much more intense. The first time I was playing a video game by myself and it started. Today I woke up and was on my computer checking my email and it started. Usually when I am alone and concentrating on something such as reading, drawing, or playing video games it will start. The onset is very difficult to describe so I will do the best I can. Usually I will notice its happening by having the feeling that things around me are moving faster then normal. If I am watching a show on TV the people will begin to move noticeably faster and speak faster as well. My actions feel like they are sped up like I am power walking when in reality I am walking normal of not slower. Objects around me start to move faster as well. For example, while I was watching a reality TV show the two people talking move quicker and speak quicker. The only thing that does not seem to move faster is time itself.

Sounds during this time behave like someone turned up the volume. When I was walking into work this morning I heard what I think was a sprinkler running but it sounded like a waterfall. People talking almost sound like they are yelling but lack the stress in their voice that is normally present when someone is yelling. I work in a call center and when I walked into the office I was met with a verbal onslaught of voices. If multiple people are talking regardless of how loud they are talking or how close they are to me it is a complete jumble of voices at equal raised volume. Last night during a episode I checked my pulse by pressing my fingers against my neck and to the best of my ability it seemed to be at a normal steady pace. I have my lip pierced and normally will play with the ring in my lip and I recall playing with it non-stop at a rapid pace during the episode last night. However one thing I did find odd is in my head things are running at a normal pace. My thoughts don't seem to race and I even said to myself out loud last night "Slow down M****" and that seemed normal as well.

I googled my symptoms and found people posting about identical things and one mentioned a type of Vertigo. I looked up Vertigo and the wiki site I read didn't seem like it was what I was experiencing. It is relieving to know other people are going through what I am I never really talked about it before because I think people would just say I am doing drugs or that I am weird.

Help? I am scheduling an appointment with a psychiatrist but I am trying to find out anything I can to kinda put my mind at ease.

  • Hi,I am trying to find information on my daughter who has heard a voice in her head and the voice was going in fast motion. This has happened to her on a few occasions growing up. She just turned 18 years old. It could happen as we would be driving down the road when traveling for a few hours. She also had what I thought was Night terrors at around the age of 5-7. She would go to bed but would not stay in her room. I would find her downstairs and she was scared to lay down because she could see spiders on the railings or burning bugs. She used to play video games when she was little but we stopped that when these instances started happening. I am very interested in the voices that you hear in fast motion. Can you explain them and tell me how often this is happening? Thanks

  • My 11 year old daughter has been experiencing very simlar symtoms to the ones described above, over the last few months. They often coincide with having her head down reading, picking things up off the floor or playing video games. Has anyone consulted a doctor about this? Thinking about doing that soon but as the symptoms are difficult to describe and don't last more than 5-10 minutes it would be quite difficult to describe. My 15 year old daughter has been experiencing the exact same thing. • I'm fifteen and I've had these exact same symptoms since I was 7. It all start with a dream I had when I was a kid when everything felt like it was moving fast. Ever since then I've been having the same symptoms you've been having. I went to my family doctor when I was 11 and he recommended a pediatrician. The pediatrician had me go through and EEG test which measures brain waves. They found nothing. Recently this year I went back to my family doctor and she (new doctor) scheduled the same thing, a pediatrician that did an EEG test, but this family doctor had a little more information. She said that it might be mini seizsures. She said they're small and only effect my hearing and vision. I'm not epileptic or anything like that but she says you don't have to be to have these small seizsures. I haven't went for my new EEG test yet but when I do I'll be sure to let you know what results come back. Best of luck.:)

  • Hi,I have had the same thing going on since I was little, and have always wondered what it was. I didn't have that feeling for at least ten years, and then it came back last summer. When I was younger and my mom would be vacuuming, or there was some other repetitive sound, it would start to sound really fast. And then when the sound went away, everything would be going really fast. Just like you, it would sound like people were screaming and talking fast, even when I would talk to myself in my head to try to calm down. I would feel like I was walking fast and sounds would just be so amplified and people's voices sounded angry. I experienced this last summer again, at the laundromat from the sound of the washers and then it happened again the other day. This time it made me feel really angry like I could put my fist through the wall and I couldn't stop gritting my teeth. I actually work in mental health and nobody can give me any straight answers. I also suffer from panic attacks on occasion. If anyone gets a diagnosis please let me know. This sounds pretty similar to what you're experiencing, right?

  • this fast feeling and the sensitivity to noise may be a stress reaction. years ago i could not stop the racing thoughts. the psychiatrists had me on medications and am on trazedone now. it has been 15 years or so. also consider your diet: is it high in sugar? or caffeine? take soda pop completely out it may help.

  • Hi,I'm a 20 year old guy and i've gotten this as well. It started when i was in grade 8, i noticed it typically occured when i was reading. I also would have really odd feelings before bed too, associated with nightmares. It wasn't even a nightmare just the feeling after upon waking up. I would get this feeling in my head of something really sharp, but like a lot of them. like a really sharp room. The feeling would occur as well. I googled it today because i literally just had an episode around 20 minutes ago, although this one was way more severe and completely overwhelming. Everything seemed like it was moving fast, and then everything sounded so loud. The office computer fans sounded overwhelmingly loud, for example. Also, i felt like my head was just going crazy. Almost like i was tripping out on some intense drug. I found myself just sitting here, looking around in small inciments. Kind of left a small headache, as well.if anyone has any medical info on this, please email mixmaster_10@hotmail.com! Thanks a lot.

  • I've had these same feelings since I was about 8. I've also never been able to get any definitive answers. The episodes seem to become longer and more intense as I get older. Did you hear anything from your psychiatrist?

  • I also have this!! I am a 31 year old female and have been experiencing these symptoms since I was about 4 years old. I have a history of complex migraine headaches and when I asked my doctor about the symptoms he felt that the episode was possibly a panic attack. During my episodes every sound is amplified and if people are talking to me their words sound very fast and it even feels like I'm talking fast. I do have to say that I'm not sure it's a panic attack - as my heart does not race (I'm pretty used to them now) and my breathing stays normal. I've always wondered what this is - I read on another blog it could be something called time distortion. Elsewhere, it does say that this could be a symptom of a complex migraine - although I have never gotten a headache following one of these episodes.

  • I logged in here because I just had one of these 5 minutes ago and it's happened to me since I was about 4 or 5 years old. In addition to the feeling of fast speed it also seemed like my thoughts and sounds were very far away from me but they were as clear as day. I've been under quite a bit of stress lately and have been short on sleep. I also just got done playing a video game for a few hours. It used to happen when I would read a book when I was younger, or was stressed out over women. It's great to hear that others experience it as well - when I was little I would trip out and make noises, it's never harmed me. This one was so intense though I was afraid I was going to start convulsing.

  • Hi,I had the feelings of everything was in fast motion many times between 7 and 13 years of age. You never know when that feeling would capture you. At times they could be so intence it would feel as if it was difficult to move even though things were in fast motion. No amplified sounds though. They never scared me very much as I new the feeling would pass.I don't believe it was food or mini strokes. Don't know if anyone could come up with a medical reason that would make sence to me. I am in my 50's.

  • I have those too, and I've had them since I was a child. They're quite rare, maybe once every 3-4 monthts or less. When I was little it was associated with nightmares or fever, but now I just have them sometimes late at evening after studying a lot. I don't think they're a panic attack, as I have no reason to be panicking, and I'm completely calm and aware of it. It's very strange. Sounds get really intense and almost violent. Sounds like everything is screaming inside my head, but without making any actual sounds. The fan of the computer or just my own thoughts sound very intense and loud. It's very hard to explain exactly. It increases in intensity and after like 5-10 minutes it's reaches a maximum where it's extremely intense for a few minutes.I'm a medical student, so I'm really interested in what's going on, and it's cool to read other people experiencing it as well. It's not a problem that's bothering me, but I'm just wondering what is going on :) I never had migraines or anything like that, and it's not associated with a headache.

  • My daughter is 8 and told me last night this fast talking was happening to her. She also said that her own voice in her head sounded wierd and creepy when it happens. It seems like a lot of people are experiencing this and no one has an answer. I am going to talk to the pediatrician today and am afraid they will have no answers except to take "tests". She mentioned playing a video game when it happened last and that seems to be a common thread, as well as reading books. If anyone has any answers please respond!

  • My son is 9 and has experienced this several times in the past year. Most recently it was while he was taking a test. He said he just put his head down and it went away. Sometime it happens when he has a really bad headache. He plays the Wii ALOT...maybe it's related some how. If anyone has any updates, please let us know. Thanks.

  • Hey, I've got this too. I will try to describe it.As the fast feeling steps in everything changes in my mind. As like if I have taken some drug and I feel a rush of adrenalin in my brain. The sounds are altered also. I can hear every little tone. My senses are different. Everything I touch is somehow different and even new. I have tried to find some information about this and I came up to this web site, where everything is described very well - http://www.fastfeeling.co.cc/

  • I am a 22 year old female and just had the "fast feeling" thing happen to me again.I was at work and suddenly it seemed like everything was happening faster then it should and I could suddenly hear lots of things that I couldn't before (or just never noticed before) like the flickering of the florescent light behind me, and the music playing in my managers office. All of the motions I was making like typing on the keyboard, walking and talking felt like I was doing them way faster then normal and I tried to slow down my movements to compensate.I used to have this happen to me quite a bit when I was younger, (once every few months or so) it would usually come on when I was doing something relaxing such as reading a book late at night. Now as an adult it doesn't seem to happen as often (once a yearish) but when it does happen it seems more intense.Other things to note about it. My heart doesn't race. It doesn't scare me (no anxiety). Lasts no longer then 5 min.
