I am a western expat woman of 38 in the middle east. I had a routine check up and found that my ESR levels were elevated. Since i was feeling run down, fatigued and had lost weight, the doc suggested a mantoux test as well which turned out to be strongly positive. I am told that mantoux test is not reliable and ESR elevation could be due to fibroids as well. I have been cleared of pulmonary TB. The problem is, as i have tested +ve for mantoux, i may have to leave the country which i cannot due to various commitments. what are my other options to rule out TB and what other causes can make the mantoux false +ve

A false positive result may be caused by nontuberculous mycobacteria or previous administration of BCG vaccine. Prior vaccination with BCG may result in a false-positive result for many years afterwards.False positives can also occur when the injected area is touched, causing swelling and itching.cination with BCG may result in a false-positive result for many years afterwards.False positives can also occur when the injected area is touched, causing swelling and itching.
