facial swelling: cyst vs. dental problem?

For over a year I noticed a cyst like swelling under my skin along side my nose, maybe 1 1/2" long, about 1/2" wide. In the beginning it was just hard and a little sore. I thought it was just a tooth root or something, yet I didn't have a toothache so I ignored it. It mostly didn't bother me. For the past two weeks I have had extreme tenderness in this area and a lot of swelling. I had my doctor prescribe an antibiotic in anticipation of maybe a tooth abscess. It hasn't helped. None of the teeth in this area hurt, nor are they loose or painful when I try to wiggle them.

I have this dilemna. For my dental work I use a dentist in Mexico because I cant afford regular dentists. I REALLY REALLY don't want to go to Mexico for dental work if I don't need it. There is a language barrier to deal with.

Could it be a medical problem? I have medical insurance so should I start with a doctor, or just go straight down to the dentist?
Help! I can't seem to make a decision, and the swelling is getting worse.

  • You need to have that looked at. Try to find a dental college in your area they always have very good rates for dental work.
