Eye infection for 8 weeks

I have had what seems like an eye infection for 8 weeks now. I have had numerous doctor's appoitnments, tried eye drops and ointments for conjunctivitis and been tested for Chlamydial, viral and bacterial conjunctivitis (all negative). But my eyes feel gritty and I wake up every morning with stickiness and crustiness. It is very frustrating as I cannot wear any eye make up or my lenses. Doctors are at a loss and have suggested it might be an allergyto cream/ shampoo etc. What does anyone recommend I should do?? I am afraid this will affect my vision/ scar my eyes (sometimes they are so gritty I haveto rub them to feel better). I cannot keep running back and forth to the doctor's as I have to work and anyway they don't seem to be taking this seriously enough as the tests are negative. But I don't want to live with this!
Any input would be appreciated!
