Basic background info:
Male, early 40s, in perfect health, almost never got sick, excellent dental health, normal weight-high ratio, regularly exercises, daily vitamins, health-conscious, mostly vegetable-eater.
DAY-1: Excruciating pain in back teeth, both sides, upper and lower started 3-19-2010 (FRI), minor "tooth-pain" started about 6-8 weeks ago, they were fairly minor and insignificant but got progressively worse, leading to the 3-19 melt-down.
Pain is truly "Excruciating"! 4 pills of Advil every 6 hors but it has virtually no effect on the pain.
]DAY-4: Went to dentist for x-ray and diagnose on Monday morning (3-22), dentist could not found anything wrong dentally.
DAY-5: Went to NYU Dental School for comprehensive evaluation on 3-23, took full mouth x-ray and undergone 3 hours of examination, was told by the supervising faculty that the teeth and gum and everything dentally are in perfect order, that the pain is not caused by tooth even though it feels like it is, possible causes are sinus disorder or TMJ, they gave me a referral to TMJ specialist but the earliest appointment is May 13.
DAY-6: Pain increase in durations and severity, nothing can stop the pain, each wave of attacks lasted hours and the only relief was when I passed out from the suffering.
DAY-7: Went to medical doctor (3-25) for emergency visit for the pain and check out the sinus, was told sinus was no problem at all and must be TMJ, ever though I told the doctor the Advil has no effect, she won't prescribe pain killer, told me to take Motrin, what a joke! I didn't know that Motrin and Advil are the same! She knew but she played the joke on me! Can you believe that? the visit cost me $150, I am in unemployment without insurance.
Used ice pack last night for about one hour and continued to took 4 Advil, the ice had greatly reduced the pain and was able to sleep without suffering the pain until passed out.
Day-8: 3-26, today, woke out with only minor pain, first time in 8 days, but soon the pain came back, stronger than ever, ice pack did help this time, nether did 4 Advil.
What can I do? How can I stop the pain? The dentist said he can't help go see a doctor, Doctor said she can't help to see TMJ, with no job and no savings I can't afford the specialist and they won't do the x-ray, CT, or MRI because these are extremely expensive tests. I don't qualify the medicaid because I am on unemployment insurance.
Any advice will be greatly appreciated! Thanks so much.
