My 15 year old daughter lost a tampon in her vagina about 7 weeks ago. Approximately 2 weeks later she became dizzy and slightly disoriented. the following day she vomited once, then fell asleep. Since that time she began sleeping 22 hours a day. She's been on two separate regimines of antibiotics (she did have a bacterial infection). Though she's down to 18 hours of sleep or so, I know she should be much better by now. They've done CT scan, several ultrasounds, blood tests (testing everything from kidneys to thyroids and for infections) and everything comes back "normal." Her ultrasounds did show fluid in her vaginal cavity.

In addition to the sleepiness she's had abdominal pain, which has gotten better but hasn't completely gone away. At it's worst she reported dreaming that a "Chuckie-like doll" was stabbing her in the stomach:) She has been awakened from the pain, although the severity has greatly decreased. I'm at a loss - we've been to 3 different doctors and no one seems to know what to do with her. Any insight at all would be appreciated.

As a mother, that must be very hard to see her so sick. You didn't mention, but I'm assuming that they did remove the tampon to prevent Toxic Shock Syndrome and then put her on the antibiotics for the vaginal infection?Has she been tested for Mononucleosis? Depression? Any possibilities for the cavity fluid?Keep seeking more opinions. If you have a teaching/university hospital near you, see if you can get her examined there. I've found teaching hospitals to give the most extensive care and search for diagnosis. Best of luck to her.
