I've been ill for a while now and the doctors can't figure out whats wrong. A while before I started getting the pains in my stomach I took bonjela adult which is for 16+ and im fifteen- but we had nothing else so I thought it'd just give me a bit of a sore tummy. I found the empty tube in my room a while ago and it said it could cause Reyes syndrome and seeing as I was still ill I thought I may as well look it up. It matches most of my symptomns but the weird thing is it matches a lot of my symptomns as the weird unsolved illness I had as a kid which were seizures, vomiting, heavy breathing and also I'd been recovering from a viral infection and had just been exposed to chicken pox. They checked me for epelepsie and meningitis but it came back all clear. They just had to say it was too viruses fighting inside of me.
So, my question is: Can Reye Syndrome become dormant? Could I have had it all these years and just kicked it off again by accident, or is that impossible and I'm just being paranoid? o.0

  • No one really knows what Reye Syndrome is so wether it can become dormant and spontaneously reoccure is an open question. The comone theory is some people are predisposed to a reaction to certain medications. Did you take a lot of pain medication growing up? Aspirin? Paracetomol? That sort of thing? If so stop. Especially if looking back you can associate such subtances with times you had attacks. If you do have Reye syndrome you have a sensitivity to these medications and simply not taking them should cause the symptoms to stop in a few weeks. One some what unlikely thing to consider. Did you wear a lot of sun screen as a kid? Did they have Trolamine salicylate in them? A chemical very similar to asprin. This is not medical advice dadedadedum.Good luck.
